Poco announces the launch of its battery-heavy X8 Power in India, prioritising endurance and feature-rich specifications to challenge established brands in the mid-range segment. The phone boasts a 10,000mAh battery, 5G connectivity, and promises extended software updates, signalling a new focus on long-lasting devices.
Poco has opened sales preparations in India for an unusually battery-heavy mid-range handset, the X8 Power, which will reach buyers on 11 September at 12 noon with a starting price of Rs 35,999 before launch discounts. Launch-day reports from 91mobiles and Digit place the phone alongside the standard X8, but make clear that the Power variant is the endurance-led model in the pair, with offers cutting its effective entry price to Rs 32,999 and a 12-month no-cost EMI plan starting at Rs 2,750 a month.
That emphasis on battery life was not a late change in messaging. Before the full announcement, AndroidPure reported that Poco had fixed the India launch for 4 September at 12 PM and had chosen the battery capacities as the first officially confirmed specifications in its teaser campaign: 10,000mAh for the X8 Power and 9,000mAh for the regular X8. TelecomTalk said Poco had been pitching both phones as sub-Rs 35,000 challengers to brands such as OnePlus, Samsung and Nothing, so the final X8 Power price lands slightly above that previewed bracket while keeping the same endurance-first strategy.
The technical split between the two X8 models is broader than battery size alone. Digit reported that the regular X8 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, a 50-megapixel main camera with optical stabilisation, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, a 16-megapixel selfie camera and 67W charging. The X8 Power steps up to Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, adds LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.1 storage, swaps in an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, lifts the front camera to 32 megapixels and supports 100W charging. TelecomTalk had flagged the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 before launch and noted that the chip itself only arrived in May 2026, giving the Power model a newer platform than its sibling.
That large battery has a visible cost in size and mass. Both 91mobiles and Gadgets 360 list the handset at 229g and 8.65mm thick, dimensions that make it bulkier than many phones in the same price band. Gadgets 360 says the device comes in Black and Yellow and records a 163.44 x 78.27 x 8.65mm footprint, reinforcing the sense that Poco has accepted extra heft in exchange for headline battery capacity rather than trying to disguise it with an ultra-thin design.
The rest of the specification sheet is strong enough to stop the phone being seen as a pure battery novelty. Launch coverage from Digit and 91mobiles describes a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display at 120Hz, with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and the same broad durability push across the X8 family, including IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K resistance. Gadgets 360 also notes face unlock, an in-display fingerprint reader and Bluetooth 6.0. On paper, that gives Poco a fairly rare combination in this segment: an oversized battery, a large high-refresh OLED panel and heavy emphasis on dust and water resistance in one device.
Software support is another part of the pitch, and one that seems to have survived intact from teaser stage to retail announcement. TelecomTalk said ahead of launch that both models might receive four years of operating system upgrades and six years of security updates. Digit’s launch report says Poco has now attached that promise to the shipping phones, both of which run HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. That matters because the X8 Power is not being sold as a short-cycle bargain device; Poco is presenting it as something buyers can keep for several years without immediately falling off the update roadmap.
Where the story becomes less tidy is in the fine print. India Today lists the X8 Power with 8GB and 12GB RAM options, 128GB and 256GB storage, Wi-Fi 6 and a vegan-leather back. Gadgets 360, by contrast, records 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, Bluetooth 6.0 and a polycarbonate body. The pre-launch FAQ cited by TelecomTalk was looser still, pointing to LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage before later launch-day reports from Digit and 91mobiles settled on LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.1 for the higher-spec Power model. Even retail availability is described differently, with Digit saying the phones will be sold through Flipkart and Poco’s e-store, while 91mobiles calls the sale Flipkart-exclusive. Those are not minor details for buyers comparing variants, and they suggest the final retail pages will need close checking before purchase.
What is clear already is that Poco sees battery anxiety as a commercial opening. The X8 Power is not attempting to win the usual specification war on thinness or flagship processing; it is built around the argument that more users would rather carry a slightly heavier handset than search for a charger by evening. In that sense, the phone is one of the more distinct launches in India’s mid-range market this month. Whether it succeeds will depend less on the novelty of a 10,000mAh cell than on charging time, sustained performance, thermal control and camera processing once review units are tested.
