POCO has unveiled the X8 Power 5G in India, featuring a colossal 10,000mAh battery and rugged design, challenging traditional value propositions with a higher-than-expected price and ambiguous specifications ahead of the sale.
POCO has opened the Indian launch of its X8 Power 5G with a headline price of ₹35,999, putting an unusually large 10,000mAh battery into a handset that sits well above the budget segment. FoneArena and The Tech Outlook reported that the phone was unveiled on 4 September 2026 and will go on sale through Flipkart on 11 September at 12:00 PM, while AndroidPure said the device arrives alongside the standard POCO X8 as the more endurance-focused model.
That battery is not just large on paper. AndroidPure described it as a silicon-carbon unit, a chemistry increasingly used to raise capacity without making handsets dramatically thicker. At 229g and 8.65mm thick, according to FoneArena and Smartprix, the X8 Power is still heavy by mainstream standards, but POCO is clearly treating stamina rather than slimness as the selling point. AndroidPure also noted that the price itself is striking: a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 phone is being pitched above ₹30,000, which is higher than many buyers would expect for that tier of chipset.
The early listings do, however, leave an important point unresolved: exactly which memory versions customers will receive. The TV9 Hindi report described a 6GB RAM and 128GB storage base model, but 91mobiles, Smartprix, FoneArena and The Tech Outlook all list the launch variants as 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB. India Today’s device database departs again, showing 8GB/128GB and 12GB/256GB, and even places the launch date on 3 September 2026 rather than 4 September. Retail and catalogue pages therefore agree on the ₹35,999 starting price and ₹38,999 higher tier, but not on the RAM configuration behind those figures.
On the screen, most sources converge on the broad hardware: a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with a 2772 x 1280 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. FoneArena adds 240Hz touch sampling, up to 3200Hz instant touch sampling and 3840Hz PWM dimming, while 91mobiles lists 3500 nits peak brightness and 2000 nits HBM brightness. India Today’s catalogue differs here as well, stating a 480Hz touch sampling rate. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection appears consistently across the supporting listings, and Dolby Vision support is reported by FoneArena and The Tech Outlook.
The camera system is more straightforward. Across the databases and launch reports, the X8 Power is described with a 50-megapixel main rear camera, optical image stabilisation, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 32-megapixel front camera. FoneArena says both front and rear systems support up to 4K video recording. The durability pitch is stronger than the camera story: Smartprix, FoneArena and The Tech Outlook all list IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K protection, while The Tech Outlook also adds Wet Touch Display 2.0, an underwater camera mode, SGS 5-Star certification and 3m drop testing.
Software support is another area where POCO appears to be aiming higher than a simple battery-led launch. 91mobiles and The Tech Outlook both say the phone runs Android 16 with HyperOS 3 and is promised four years of Android updates plus six years of security patches. The chipset is consistently given as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, but not every specification sheet agrees on the memory standard around it. 91mobiles lists LPDDR5X RAM, whereas The Tech Outlook says LPDDR4X paired with UFS 2.2 storage. India Today’s entry adds yet another variation by listing UFS 2.2 for one model and UFS 4.1 for the higher tier.
Some of the secondary features also vary by source, but they show how POCO is positioning the handset. Smartprix lists NFC, expandable storage up to 1TB and USB on-the-go, while The Tech Outlook includes bypass charging, PPS charging, dual stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos, an IR blaster and Bluetooth 6. Smartprix goes further still, claiming water resistance at up to 2 metres for 30 minutes and a dedicated memory card slot. Those details may prove useful, but the inconsistencies mean buyers should treat third-party spec tables cautiously until the final retail listing is fully standardised.
What is clear is the launch arithmetic. FoneArena says POCO will offer a ₹2,000 coupon discount, a further ₹1,000 bank or exchange bonus and 12-month no-cost EMI starting at ₹2,750 a month. AndroidPure warned that this lower marketed figure should not be mistaken for the actual sticker price: the phone still starts at ₹35,999, and the full reduction depends on meeting offer conditions. For shoppers comparing it with the standard POCO X8 or rivals in the ₹30,000 to ₹40,000 band, the X8 Power’s appeal is likely to come down to one question: whether a 10,000mAh battery, long update window and rugged build are worth accepting a heavier device and some unresolved specification ambiguity ahead of the first sale.
