Tecno’s Camon Slim 5G challenges norms with a 6,000mAh battery and art-inspired design

Tecno introduces the Camon Slim 5G, a thin mid-range smartphone boasting a 6,000mAh battery, durable build, and bold artistic finishes, aiming to redefine the balance between slimness and performance.

Tecno has launched the Camon Slim 5G with an unusually aggressive hardware balance for a thin mid-range handset: a 6.39mm body, a 6,000mAh battery and a MediaTek Dimensity 7300e 5G chip. In launch material issued from Hong Kong on 7 September, the company said the device would begin rolling out in multiple markets, but it stopped short of giving any market-specific price. That leaves the main pitch clear enough: Tecno is trying to prove that a slim phone does not have to accept the usual trade-off of a smaller battery or a cut-down camera system.

The more important context is that this is not an entirely new idea for Tecno, but a revision of the earlier Camon Slim. Reports from PhoneWorld and GadgetMatch say the 5G version keeps the same 6.39mm chassis while changing several of the fundamentals underneath. The Helio G200 Ultimate used in the 4G model has been replaced by the Dimensity 7300e, bringing 5G support. Battery capacity rises from 5,600mAh to 6,000mAh, although wired charging falls from 60W to 45W. The display also changes direction: instead of the curved panel on the older model, the new phone adopts a flat 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen running at 144Hz.

Tecno is also leaning heavily on durability, which is not usually the first selling point on a handset built around thinness. The company claims IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K protection, alongside MIL-STD-810 certification for shock and drop resistance. Supporting reports add a cluster of touch features designed for poor conditions, including Rain Touch, Waterproof Case Touch and Wet & Oily Hand Touch Recognition 2.0. Tecno has also linked the display to TÜV Rheinland low blue light certification and says the software has TÜV SÜD certification for “60 months of sustained fluidity”. Those claims will need real-world testing, but they show how deliberately the brand is trying to answer the usual concerns about slim devices being delicate.

The camera system is pitched as another area where Tecno does not want the word slim to imply compromise. Launch details and follow-up reports point to a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-700C main sensor in a 1/1.56-inch format, backed by optical image stabilisation. Tecno says it is using a closed-loop ball motor for quicker autofocus and combining OIS, AI EIS and AI Shutter for steadier shooting. The company is also advertising Super-Zoom FlashSnap for fast action capture, with support for 2x telephoto snap shooting and shutter speeds as quick as 1/11236 second. Technobaboy adds that the phone supports portrait focal lengths at 24mm, 35mm and 50mm, and includes Tecno’s Universal Tone image processing for more natural skin tones. Gadgets 360’s database listing adds another small but practical point: the 32-megapixel front camera has autofocus.

Software and accessories are a substantial part of the sales message. Tecno says the Camon Slim 5G will receive three major Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates, and in selected markets buyers will get a three-month Google AI Plus trial with 2TB of storage. Technobaboy’s launch summary suggests the AI package is aimed as much at utility as novelty, with tools such as AI Snap Poster for small merchants, AI Recording Notes for classes or meetings, AI Class Schedule for students, AI Healthy Eating for food analysis and AI Pet Together for composite pet portraits. The same report also mentions an optional Mag Badge accessory, a magnetic AMOLED attachment that can work as a photo badge, a selfie helper and a remote shutter.

Tecno’s design language is unusually explicit. The company describes the phone in art-led terms, with Neo Mondrian using a photochromic panel that reveals coloured blocks under ultraviolet light, Van Gogh Blue using a patterned gradient effect intended to evoke a rotating nebula, Matisse Black combining a black fibreglass body with fluorescent green accents, Rebel Pink pairing pink detailing with a black shell, and Burgundy Red using a matte, velvet-like finish. However, the finish story is not entirely consistent across published material. Tecno’s own launch statement and several early reports describe five signature designs, while Gadgets 360’s specification listing names a sixth option, Gossamer White. That suggests the colour range may differ by market, or that some finishes are being positioned separately from the main art-themed set.

Availability remains the unanswered part of the announcement. Tecno has said only that the phone is “rolling out across various markets” and that local pricing will be announced country by country. That means regional reporting is filling the gap with estimates rather than confirmed numbers. In Pakistan, for example, PhoneWorld put the expected range at PKR 68,999 to PKR 84,999 and suggested a late September or October 2026 arrival, while stressing that Tecno had not confirmed either figure. There is also some confusion over timing. Gadgets 360’s device database lists a release date of 7 August 2026 and marks the model as released, but Tecno’s own statement and multiple same-day launch reports place the unveiling on 7 September 2026 in Hong Kong. Until Tecno publishes full retail details, the Camon Slim 5G looks less like a completed commercial roll-out than a global announcement with local launches still to follow.
