Capture leverages Cloudflare DNS to enhance rights holder protection amid AI training concerns

Capture integrates Cloudflare DNS controls, including ‘Pay Per Crawl’, offering rights holders a stronger defence against unauthorised AI content scraping and empowering revenue preservation through tailored access management.

Capture is positioning its digital asset management platform as a stronger line of defence for rights holders as AI companies intensify their use of web content for training and indexing. The company says its infrastructure now includes Cloudflare DNS, which it presents as a way to add another layer of protection for images, video and other creative material that would otherwise be exposed to automated scraping.

The shift reflects a broader change in the market. Cloudflare said it has introduced controls that let website owners block AI crawlers by default, giving them more direct authority over how their content is accessed and used. According to Cloudflare, the aim is to curb unauthorised scraping and help preserve both traffic and revenue for publishers, creators and other content owners. The BBC has also reported that the change is already affecting more than a million websites.

Cloudflare has gone further by introducing a “Pay Per Crawl” model, designed to let site owners charge AI crawlers for access to their pages. Documentation from Cloudflare says the feature can be configured at zone level, with owners able to set pricing and apply different rules to different types of content. The company says this is intended to create a clearer commercial framework for AI firms that want to use third-party material.

For Capture, that model fits a licensing-first approach to digital content. The company says its customers are not simply storing assets but protecting them within an environment that is meant to support control, attribution and monetisation. In practical terms, the combination of Capture’s platform and Cloudflare’s crawler controls is being presented as a way for organisations to keep tighter oversight of how their work is discovered, copied and potentially reused in an AI-driven web.
