The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max boasts a 10,000mAh battery delivering over 26 hours in testing, positioning it as a durable workhorse rather than a flagship device, despite hardware and software limitations.
REDMI’s Note 17 Pro Max is a battery-first phone, and that is the point it makes most forcefully. In Pokde’s review, the handset’s 10,000mAh silicon-carbon cell delivered 26 hours and 20 minutes in PCMark testing, which the publication said was the longest runtime it had measured on a smartphone. That aligns with other reviews noting that the device has been positioned around endurance rather than outright speed, with some reports describing up to three days of lighter use from the larger-capacity variants sold internationally.
The appeal is not limited to capacity. Computer Bild described the phone as unusually slim for a device with such a large battery, while other testing has praised the bright 6.83-inch AMOLED screen and the sturdy build, including high ingress protection. Pokde likewise noted that the display is well suited to everyday media use and that the device ships with a 100W charger in the box, plus 27W reverse wired charging for topping up other devices.
That said, the rest of the hardware is less convincing. Pokde found the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 to be only modestly capable, with occasional slowdowns in HyperOS 3 and no sense of premium responsiveness. Android Central reached a similar conclusion, saying the chipset limits multitasking and gaming, even if sustained GPU stability appears solid in benchmark runs. The device’s camera system is also not a strong point: both Pokde and other reviewers reported oversaturated colours, uneven exposure and weak low-light performance.
Software remains another drawback. Pokde criticised Xiaomi’s HyperOS for intrusive advertising and for system-app prompts that feel difficult to avoid, a view echoed by broader reviews that see the software experience as one of the least polished parts of the package. Even so, the phone does offer practical extras that are becoming rare, including an IR blaster, dual stereo speakers, NFC and waterproofing claims that place it among the more durable mid-range options on paper.
At RM1,999 in Malaysia for the 8GB/256GB model, Pokde concluded that the Note 17 Pro Max makes a credible case as a workhorse rather than a showpiece. The combination of exceptional endurance, fast charging and a robust shell gives it a clear identity, but its middling performance, uneven camera tuning and ad-heavy software stop it from being a clean recommendation for everyone. The result is a phone that wins on practicality, not polish.
