OWC unveils a compact, fanless USB4 hub with HDMI 2.1 output supporting 4K at 120Hz, 8K at 60Hz, and up to 40Gb/s bandwidth, offering high-performance connectivity for Mac, Windows, Linux, and iPad Pro users requiring versatile external display and device support in a single-cable setup.
OWC has introduced a new USB4 Hub aimed at users who want more desktop-style connectivity from a laptop or tablet without moving to a larger dock. Priced at $130, it is positioned for Mac, Windows, Linux and iPad Pro users who need faster peripherals, external display support and a simpler single-cable setup.
The hub’s main selling point is its HDMI 2.1 output. OWC says it can drive displays at up to 4K at 120Hz, or 4K at 240Hz when Display Stream Compression is enabled. It also supports 8K at 60Hz, although the real-world result will depend on the host computer and the attached monitor. That places it above basic USB hubs and makes it more relevant for users with high-refresh screens or demanding creative workflows.
Alongside video output, the device provides two USB4 downstream ports and two USB-C ports, giving it a total bandwidth of up to 40Gb/s. According to OWC, that is enough to handle fast external SSDs and other bandwidth-heavy accessories at the same time as a display connection. The hub is also compatible with Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 5, USB4 and USB-C systems, which broadens its appeal across mixed device fleets.
Power delivery is another part of the package. OWC says the hub can supply up to 81W to a connected laptop through its external power adapter, allowing charging while the dock is in use. The aluminium housing is fanless, which should keep noise down in desk setups. The result is a compact alternative to a full docking station, with the emphasis squarely on bandwidth, display support and quiet operation.
