Google has launched Gemini in Sheets for Android, enabling users to perform lightweight data analysis and insights on the go, with a focus on quick review rather than full editing capabilities.
Google has brought Gemini in Sheets to Android, extending the assistant beyond the web version so users can inspect spreadsheet data while away from a desktop. According to a Google Workspace update, the mobile experience is centred on analysis rather than editing, with users able to ask questions about a table, surface insights and generate charts by tapping the Gemini icon inside a compatible sheet. Suggested prompts such as “Summarise this table” and “Analyse for insights” are built in to help people start quickly.
The company says the Android release is intended for eligible Workspace and consumer users, with access enabled by default where Gemini is already turned on at the domain or organisational-unit level. Google also notes that administrators do not get a separate control for the mobile feature, and that users need only open a supported spreadsheet on an Android device and select the Ask Gemini option.
There are important limits. Google says complex edits, formatting tasks and formula generation remain web-first capabilities, which keeps the mobile version focused on lightweight analysis. That distinction matters for teams using Sheets in the field, where the Android app can now support quick review and interpretation, but not full spreadsheet construction.
The launch fits a broader push to make Gemini more useful across Workspace. TechCrunch reported earlier this year that Google was adding Gemini functions to Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive, while Google has also highlighted stronger spreadsheet performance in benchmarks and wider language support. Android Authority reported that Gemini in Sheets recently expanded to 28 additional languages, and separately that it can diagnose and fix formula errors for Google AI Pro and Ultra users, suggesting Google is building Sheets into a more capable AI workspace rather than a simple chatbot overlay.
