Samsung Galaxy S26 FE faces tough competition as late arrival and recycled hardware weaken appeal

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 FE introduces familiar features like a large AMOLED screen and versatile camera, but critics argue its delayed launch and recycled hardware undermine its competitiveness in a crowded mid-range market.

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 FE lands with a familiar formula: a large AMOLED screen, a versatile triple-camera array, a 4,900mAh battery and the sort of premium build usually reserved for pricier handsets. Notebookcheck says the phone pairs a bright 120Hz display with IP68 protection and long software support, but argues that its late arrival, recycled hardware and launch price weaken the case for buying one at full cost.

That criticism is hard to ignore. At $700 for the 128GB version, the S26 FE sits close to phones that are either cheaper or plainly stronger value. The standard S26 can be found at a similar price, while the S26+ often appears for about $100 more on discount. According to the review from WIRED, the 256GB model at $800 looks even less convincing, especially when the regular S26 begins with that storage tier and costs less.

Camera performance is competent, if not class-leading. WIRED found that daytime shots from the 50MP main camera are detailed, sharp and colour-rich without looking unnatural, while Samsung’s Night Mode helps in dim light so long as the phone is held steady. The 3x telephoto is useful for distant subjects, though it is softer than the main sensor, and digital zoom quickly becomes muddy. Tom’s Guide reached a similar conclusion, saying the main camera captures useful detail but can look darker and less vivid than rivals, while the 8MP telephoto and selfie camera trail stronger flagships in fine texture and clarity. SamMobile says the camera hardware appears largely unchanged from the previous generation, with image gains likely coming from processing rather than new sensors.

Video is more impressive than the stills suggest. WIRED reports that the main camera records at up to 4K at 60fps or 8K at 30fps, with strong stabilisation and a horizontal lock mode that keeps the frame level if the phone is rotated during recording. Samsung also includes audio-cleanup tools and a new My FanCam feature that can automatically reframe clips around a subject. MobileDokan similarly notes that the 3x optical lens extends zoom flexibility beyond phones that rely only on digital cropping, even if the results cannot match true flagship telephoto systems. In practical terms, the S26 FE appears well-equipped, but its asking price makes it difficult to recommend unless Samsung’s usual discounts arrive quickly.
