Boston Scientific resumes full operations after global cyberattack disruption

Boston Scientific has fully restored its manufacturing, order fulfilment, and shipping capabilities following a cyberattack that caused widespread disruption to its global operations, impacting hospital supplies and sales guidance.

Boston Scientific said it has fully restored manufacturing, order fulfilment and shipping after a cyberattack that disrupted its global operations in late August. In a statement published on its website, the medical device maker said its distribution network is now working at or above normal levels as it clears backlogs and processes orders that were delayed during the outage.

The company said it has not found evidence of ongoing threat activity or signs that its systems or products were compromised after containment measures were put in place on 25 August. Boston Scientific has been working with CrowdStrike and other outside cybersecurity specialists while it restores remaining capacity and replenishes sales representatives’ inventory.

Chief executive Mike Mahoney gave a fuller account of the disruption at the Wells Fargo Healthcare Conference, saying all of the company’s plants and distribution centres were shut down worldwide. He said some procedures were lost because hospitals faced uncertainty over supply, and noted that some customers may have ordered from alternative sources during the disruption.

The financial effect is still unclear, but Boston Scientific has already said it is likely to miss third-quarter and full-year sales and earnings guidance. Mahoney said it is too early to put a precise figure on the hit, with the recovery rate for lost business likely to be a key factor. The company plans to provide more detail when it reports results on 28 October. Even before the cyberattack, Boston Scientific had cut guidance twice this year because of weakness in parts of its business, prompting Stifel analysts to warn that investors may already view 2026 as a difficult year for the group.
