Leaked images suggest Samsung is launching its first open-ear clip-on earbuds, featuring smart automation, gesture controls, and environment awareness, set to challenge traditional in-ear designs.
Samsung is preparing what appears to be a major shift in its audio range, with leaks pointing to a new clip-on model called the Galaxy Buds On. The device first emerged earlier this year under the name Galaxy Buds Able and the unusual SM-U600 model number, which does not follow the SM-R pattern Samsung has used for its existing Galaxy Buds line.
The leaked designs suggest an open-ear approach rather than the sealed, in-ear fit used by most true wireless earbuds. According to images shared by SamMobile and other leak reports, the earbud clips around the outer ear, with one module positioned near the ear canal and another sitting behind the ear. That layout appears to favour air conduction, allowing users to hear more of their surroundings while listening.
Several reported features indicate Samsung is trying to make the product more practical in everyday use. GizmoChina and SamMobile say the Buds On may include automatic volume adjustment, raising playback in noisy places and lowering it in quieter settings. The earbuds are also said to support head gestures, which could provide hands-free control for music or calls, alongside voice commands tied to Gemini and Bixby.
Other leaked functions point to a more software-led product than a simple audio accessory. Reports say the earbuds may pause playback when they detect the wearer has fallen asleep, which would be useful for podcasts or music at night. SamMobile has also reported that Samsung may include voice recording with Galaxy AI summaries, although that has not been confirmed by the company.
Samsung has not announced the Galaxy Buds On, nor confirmed its final name, specifications or launch date. The leaks do, however, suggest the project is progressing, and some reports say the earbuds could arrive alongside the Galaxy S26 FE. If accurate, the device would mark Samsung’s first serious move into the open-ear clip-on category, where awareness of the environment is often prioritised over noise isolation.
