Sony has unveiled the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G, a versatile and compact fisheye zoom lens for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras, offering extreme wide-angle and close-up distortion effects for various professional and creative applications.
Sony has unveiled the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G, its first fisheye zoom lens for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras. The lens spans 8mm to 14mm, shifting from a circular fisheye view at the wide end to a diagonal fisheye perspective at 14mm. Sony says it is intended for landscape, architecture, sports and video production, giving creators a single optic that covers a range of extreme wide-angle looks.
The optical design combines ED glass and aspherical elements to limit chromatic aberration and preserve resolution across the zoom range. According to Sony and early hands-on reports, the lens focuses as close as 15cm and offers 0.22x magnification at the telephoto end, which should make it useful for close-up distortion effects as well as broader scene work. Reviewers have also noted that its fisheye rendering is more flexible than the fixed look of a typical prime.
Sony has kept the lens compact for its class, at about 314g and 82.8mm long, with an internal zoom mechanism that helps keep balance steady while zooming. The company says that should make the lens suitable for handheld, gimbal and rig-mounted shooting. It also includes fast autofocus, linear-response manual focus, a focus mode switch, a zoom lock, a de-clickable aperture ring and dust- and moisture-resistant construction, plus a fluorine coating on the front element for added outdoor durability.
The lens also appears aimed at specialised production workflows. Sony says that when two units are paired with the VENICE Extension System Mini, their optical axes sit close to human interpupillary distance, supporting spatial capture and virtual reality content. The company’s UK press centre says the lens will arrive in late September 2026, while other listings and reports point to October availability, with pricing around $1,599.99, £1,499 or RM6,399 depending on market.
