QNAP launches the TS-h966TX, a compact nine-bay NAS designed for media teams requiring large capacity and fast workflow, featuring Thunderbolt 4, 10GbE, and flexible SSD options in a smaller enclosure.
QNAP has unveiled the TS-h966TX, a compact nine-bay NAS aimed at media teams that need both large-capacity storage and fast working space in one chassis. The device combines five 3.5-inch SATA bays with four 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe slots, allowing users to mix bulk storage with SSD cache or all-flash pools. According to QNAP, the enclosure is 36% smaller than its earlier HDD-based six-bay Thunderbolt 4 models, a change that makes it easier to place on a desktop or in a smaller edit suite.
Inside, the TS-h966TX is built around a six-core Intel Core i3 processor that can reach 4.4GHz, paired with 8GB of DDR5 memory that can be expanded to 64GB. QNAP says the system runs QuTS hero, its ZFS-based operating system, which adds block-level inline deduplication, real-time compression, SSD optimisation and data-integrity features including WORM support. The hardware specification also confirms a 4K HDMI output for local monitoring.
Connectivity is aimed at direct-editing and team workflows. The NAS includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports for workstation links, one 10GBASE-T port and one 2.5GbE port for networked use, plus two 10Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports and a USB 2.0 port. QNAP positions the system for ingest, editing, visual effects, project hand-off, backup and shared access, with the company also highlighting Qsirch search and optional advanced RAG search for finding stored files.
The storage design also leaves room for expansion and tiering. QNAP says the U.2 bays can be used for SSD caching or high-speed pools, and that M.2 NVMe drives can be fitted into those bays through an optional adapter. The company also lists Qtier data tiering and support for the TL-D810TC4 USB4 JBOD enclosure, extending the system for users who need more capacity later. QNAP’s public release does not list Philippine pricing or a local launch date.
