Huawei’s Mate XT 2 rises in price as exclusive foldable remains unavailable internationally

The Huawei Mate XT 2, a high-end tri-fold device, launches in China with a premium price tag exceeding €5,000 in import markets, offering limited availability and features outside the region.

Huawei’s Mate XT 2 has arrived in China as one of the most expensive phones in the market, while import listings have pushed its unofficial price beyond €5,000. According to reports from Chinese and technology outlets, the tri-fold handset is unlikely to receive a formal international launch, leaving overseas buyers dependent on resellers and import specialists.

The device uses an inward-folding tri-panel design, meaning both hinges close the screen towards the body rather than leaving part of the display exposed. When shut, it has a 6.5-inch outer screen; fully opened, it becomes a 10.2-inch tablet-sized panel. Several reports also say Huawei has added a privacy display option and fitted the handset with the Kirin 9050 Pro chip, with HarmonyOS as the operating system.

In China, pricing starts at 19,999 yuan for the 16GB/256GB version, with higher configurations rising sharply. Reports say the 1TB model with a privacy display is priced at 24,999 yuan, while top-end variants with 2TB of storage and stylus support approach 30,000 yuan. Import sellers in Hong Kong, Britain and the United Arab Emirates have set even higher prices, with some 1TB versions and privacy-screen options crossing the €5,000 mark.

That puts Huawei’s flagship foldable well above rival premium devices on price, at least in the international grey market. Buyers outside China would also face practical limitations, including no eSIM support, missing Google Mobile Services, no Android Auto and the absence of an official warranty. Industry reports say that combination makes the Mate XT 2 a highly specialised product for enthusiasts, rather than a mainstream global release.
