Sony introduces two new wireless headsets, Pulse and Pulse Edge, featuring planar magnetic drivers and low-latency PlayStation Link technology, as it builds on the success of the Pulse Elite and pushes further into high-end audio for gamers.
Sony is widening its PlayStation audio range with two new wireless headsets, the Pulse and the Pulse Edge, as it builds on the reception to the Pulse Elite introduced in 2024. The new models continue Sony’s push towards planar magnetic audio on PlayStation hardware, a driver type more often associated with higher-end gaming headsets and studio-style listening.
Both headsets use PlayStation Link, Sony’s low-latency wireless system, and can connect to PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac. Sony said the format is intended to deliver lossless audio with minimal delay, while Bluetooth support remains available for broader device use. According to Sony’s PlayStation blog, the line is designed to work across the company’s current console and portable ecosystem.
The two headsets share a number of core features, including AI-assisted microphone noise rejection and integrated microphones. The Pulse Edge adds a detachable boom mic, active noise cancellation, a carrying case, onboard controls and a hidden backup microphone. Sony’s product page also lists the Pulse Edge in Midnight Black and White, positioning it as the more fully specified model in the pair.
The clearest technical distinction is inside the drivers. Sony says the Pulse Edge uses eight magnets per planar driver, compared with four in the standard Pulse, a design choice the company says improves bass while preserving detail and clarity. Notebookcheck and other reports also note that the Edge is expected to include game/chat balance controls and an audio jack. Sony has said the Pulse Edge is due in early 2027, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. The release timing and price for the standard Pulse have not yet been confirmed.
