Apple launches the iPhone 18 Pro Max with enhanced camera features, faster silicon, and longer battery life, marking a significant upgrade from the previous model, while maintaining the familiar design and premium features.
Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro Max arrives as a measured but substantial upgrade on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, with the clearest gains in speed, imaging and battery life. In India, Gadgets 360 says the latest model starts at Rs. 1,79,900 for the 256GB version, up from Rs. 1,49,900 for the 17 Pro Max at launch, and both phones still sit in the same premium storage tier up to 2TB. Tom’s Guide says the newer device also comes in fresh Burgundy and Glacier finishes, alongside Black and Silver.
The two phones look broadly familiar, but Apple has refined the internals. According to Tom’s Guide and TechRadar, the iPhone 18 Pro Max uses the A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process, and pairs it with improved thermal management, which should help sustained performance in gaming and other demanding tasks. The display remains a 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel with 120Hz ProMotion and 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness, though the newer model has a smaller Dynamic Island and subtle design changes. Both generations run a similar aluminium unibody design with Ceramic Shield protection.
Camera hardware is where Apple has made one of its most notable changes. The iPhone 18 Pro Max keeps the triple 48-megapixel rear setup, but Tom’s Guide says the main sensor now adds a variable aperture, giving users more control over depth of field and low-light capture. The front camera also gets a refresh, while video tools gain more pro-oriented controls. By contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro Max uses a fixed-aperture main camera and otherwise similar telephoto and ultra-wide hardware.
Battery and charging are also stronger on the new model. Tom’s Guide says the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach up to 43 hours of video playback, compared with 37 hours on the 17 Pro Max, and it supports 60W wired charging that takes it to 50% in about 15 minutes. The older phone is rated at 33 hours of streamed playback and needs around 20 minutes with a 40W adaptor to hit the same level. For buyers already on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the upgrade may feel incremental; for anyone coming from an older handset, the combination of faster silicon, better camera control and longer endurance is more persuasive.
