Sony India introduces its latest G Master super-telephoto zoom lens, combining high-speed autofocus, lightweight design, and advanced optical performance, set to reshape professional wildlife and sports photography in India from May 2026.
Sony India has added the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS to its Alpha E-mount line-up, positioning the lens for wildlife, birding, sports and photojournalism. The company says the zoom combines a constant f/4.5 aperture with G Master optics, fast autofocus and a lighter build aimed at photographers and videographers who need reach without sacrificing handling. Sony India also says the lens will be sold through its own retail network, authorised dealers and major online platforms in India from 22 May 2026, at a price of Rs 4,66,990.
According to Sony’s product information, the lens covers a 100mm to 400mm range and can be paired with optional teleconverters to extend reach to 800mm, or to 1,200mm in APS-C mode. Sony says its optical design uses advanced low-dispersion and aspherical elements, along with Nano AR Coating II, to reduce chromatic aberration, ghosting and flare. The lens also carries an 11-blade circular aperture, intended to preserve the smooth background blur associated with the company’s premium G Master branding.
The lens weighs about 1,840g and uses an internal zoom mechanism that keeps its length and balance steady across the zoom range. Sony says four XD linear motors, a floating focus system and updated autofocus algorithms deliver faster focus acquisition and better subject tracking than the previous generation. The lens is also described as compatible with the Alpha 9 III’s 120fps continuous shooting with autofocus and auto-exposure tracking, while support for breathing compensation and active image stabilisation makes it more suitable for handheld stills and video work. Digital Camera World’s review of the same lens highlights its compact design, strong sharpness and useful handling features, reflecting a broader move by Sony towards lighter super-telephoto optics for professional use.
