Bose expands its open-ear range with two new models, Sport Open Earbuds for active users and second-generation Ultra Open Earbuds offering enhanced sound and features, reshaping wireless audio for diverse needs.
Bose has expanded its open-ear range with two new pairs of earbuds aimed at different users: the Sport Open Earbuds for exercise and the second-generation Ultra Open Earbuds for people who want a more premium all-day option. The common thread is the same open-ear cuff design, which leaves the ear canal unobstructed so listeners can stay aware of traffic, colleagues or other surroundings. That also means there is no active noise cancellation, which is the trade-off for keeping the sound open. Bose says pre-orders begin on 19 September, with shipping from 1 October.
The Sport Open Earbuds are the new lower-priced entry point, positioned squarely at runners and gym users. Bose has given them a soft silicone cuff and textured controls intended to be easier to find by touch during exercise. They are rated IP54 for resistance to sweat, splashes and dust, and Bose lists seven hours of playback from the buds alone, rising to 22 hours with the charging case. The price is $199, or £179.95 in UK reporting.
The Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) keep the $299 price of the original model but add a redesigned driver, which Bose says improves bass and raises volume. Bose also points to a new Cinema Mode for films and television, along with AI-assisted voice isolation for calls. Reporters at Tom’s Guide and What Hi-Fi say the updated model also extends battery life, with up to nine hours in the buds and about 28.5 hours including the case, while adding wireless charging support that the first version lacked.
There is, however, some inconsistency around the Sport Open Earbuds’ launch timing. Bose’s announcement says they ship on 1 October, but What Hi-Fi, T3 and TechRadar all report a retail availability date of 15 October. Across both models, Bose is also promising later software additions, including Google Find Hub, Alexa+ and an Apple Music shortcut, to arrive through a firmware update after launch. Both earbuds will come in Black and White Smoke, with limited-edition Cherry Chocolate, Olive Green and Sky Pink finishes also listed.
