Recent reports indicate that Gemini’s smart home control features are failing for some Android Auto users, adding to a series of glitches that suggest instability in Google’s evolving platform, just as complaints about its wider vehicle assistant activities grow louder.
Gemini’s smart home controls appear to be faltering again, this time for some Android Auto users. Several people have reported that voice commands which previously worked, such as switching on air conditioning or other connected devices, are now being refused by the assistant, which says it cannot control smart home devices while driving.
The timing is awkward for Google. Android Authority noted that the reports come shortly after Wear OS users described a different Gemini bug in which the assistant appeared to carry out home-control actions that never actually happened. Google said that Wear OS problem had been fixed, but the Android Auto complaints suggest the wider transition to Gemini is still unstable.
On Reddit, users have said the behaviour changed suddenly after months of normal operation. Some also report broader failures, including reminders, calendar requests and other voice tasks not working reliably. In at least one case, the same commands still worked inside the Gemini app, which points to a platform-specific fault rather than a complete account or device failure.
The Android Auto issue fits a longer pattern of complaints around Gemini in cars. Android Authority has previously reported problems ranging from overly long responses to navigation, calling and music playback failures, while other users have described conversation loops and other glitches that make the system awkward or unsafe to use while driving. Google has been contacted for comment on the latest reports, but the cause remains unclear.
