OpenAI expands ChatGPT’s functionality with a new Word integration and browser extension support, transforming the model into a more versatile tool for the modern workplace.
OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT deeper into everyday office work, with a new Word integration that lets users draft, edit and restructure documents without leaving Microsoft’s word processor. According to OpenAI’s help documentation, the add-in is available across all ChatGPT plans, including the free tier, and can be installed from Microsoft Marketplace. It can turn notes into a first draft, summarise documents, answer questions about the text and rewrite selected passages.
The move is aimed at reducing the routine friction of document work. OpenAI says the Word add-in also supports formatting and reorganisation, which means it can be used not only for writing, but also for cleaning up structure and presentation. That places it closer to an in-document editing assistant than a simple chat window attached to Word.
OpenAI has also widened the ChatGPT desktop app’s browser capabilities. Its browser-extension documentation says the in-app browser now supports Chrome extensions, alongside other browsers including Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi. That allows users to keep tools such as password managers and workflow add-ons available while working inside ChatGPT, rather than switching repeatedly between apps.
The company’s desktop browser already supports sign-ins, autofill, password management, downloads and navigation inside the ChatGPT interface, according to OpenAI’s help pages. The extension support therefore appears to build on an existing effort to make the desktop app a more complete work environment, rather than a simple chat client.
OpenAI has also updated how plugins handle accounts. According to the company, most plugins can now connect multiple accounts, allowing work and personal services to be used in the same conversation. OpenAI says the feature applies across all plans and versions of ChatGPT, which suggests a broad rollout rather than a limited enterprise-only release.
Taken together, the changes show OpenAI pushing ChatGPT further into daily productivity software. Word integration, browser extensions and multi-account plugin support all point in the same direction: making the model useful inside the tools people already use, rather than as a separate destination.
