iPhone 18 Pro’s fastest charging depends on choosing the right USB-C gear

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max support the fastest wired and wireless charging yet for an iPhone, but unlocking full speeds requires compatible accessories with specific wattage and protocol support.

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max support the fastest charging seen on any iPhone so far, but the top speeds depend on using the right power gear. According to MacRumors and The Mac Observer, the phones can reach around 50% in roughly 15 minutes when paired with a 60W USB-C adapter that supports Adjustable Voltage Supply, or AVS. That matters because wattage alone is not enough; a high-output charger without AVS may not unlock the full charging rate.

For wired charging, the practical rule is simple: use a USB-C adapter rated at 60W or more, and check that AVS is listed in the specifications. Apple’s own 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W max meets that requirement, and Apple’s testing for the iPhone 18 Pro charging claims used that unit. The bundled USB-C cable is suitable, but third-party cables should support at least 60W, with 100W support preferable if you want one cable that also works well for a MacBook or other USB-C devices. The Mac Observer notes that if you already own a capable 65W or 100W charger, there is no need to replace it unless AVS support is missing.

The difference between compatible and non-compatible adapters is modest at the top end, but it is still measurable. Without AVS, the iPhone 18 Pro Max can still reach 50% in around 20 minutes with a 40W or higher adapter, although a full charge takes longer. Reuters-style product guidance from the linked coverage also suggests that many USB-C power banks will be limited by their own output ceilings, which often sit below their advertised peak ratings. That makes the charger’s real-world specification more important than the headline number on the box.

Wireless charging is simpler, but it is also slower and hotter. The iPhone 18 Pro supports up to 25W wireless charging through MagSafe and Qi2, according to MacRumors and The Mac Observer. Apple says this allows a 0-50% charge in about 30 minutes with a compatible MagSafe charger. For the best result, use a Qi2 25W-certified pad or an Apple MagSafe charger rated for the higher speed, not the earlier 15W version. A 35W or stronger USB-C adapter may also be needed to power a charging stand that serves an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods at once.

The practical advice is to match the charger to the task. Wired charging remains the fastest choice for a short top-up, while 25W wireless charging is better suited to desk and bedside use. Cooling, cable quality and the charger’s actual protocol support all matter. In other words, the iPhone 18 Pro can charge very quickly, but only if the accessories are chosen with more care than the wattage figure alone might suggest.
