Dyson introduces its latest high-end cordless vacuum, the V16 Piston Animal, featuring stronger suction, anti-tangle technology, and smart floor detection, but faces scrutiny over practicality and price points in Indian households.
Dyson has introduced the V16 Piston Animal cordless vacuum in India, positioning it as a flagship model built around stronger suction, anti-tangle cleaning and more automated floor detection. The company says the machine is aimed at homes that need one vacuum to handle both hard floors and carpets without manual head changes, and it has launched at a premium price of INR 79,900 through Dyson’s Indian stores and online channels.
At the centre of the design is a new All Floor Cones Sense cleaner head with dual conical brush bars. Dyson says the shape is intended to move long hair towards the narrower ends of the cones before it is drawn into the bin, reducing the need to cut or pull hair from the rollers. The head also senses changes in floor type and automatically alters suction and brush-bar speed, slowing on hard floors and increasing agitation on carpet for deeper cleaning.
The vacuum is powered by a 900W Hyperdymium motor, which Dyson claims delivers 315AW of suction and is 50% more powerful than the previous unit. The system is paired with Dynamic Cyclone technology, which activates five additional cyclones in Boost mode to increase suction when needed. Dyson also says the vacuum can run for up to 70 minutes, with a swappable battery available for longer sessions.
Another major change is the CleanCompaktor bin, which Dyson says compresses dust and debris so the bin can hold up to three times more waste and remain uncluttered for longer. The company says the redesigned emptying mechanism wipes internal surfaces as the bin is cleared, reducing the chance of hair and dust being left behind. The vacuum also links to the MyDyson app for maintenance alerts, filter guidance and usage support, although independent reviews of earlier retail availability have suggested that some of the smart features may be less essential than the core cleaning performance.
Dyson says the machine uses a fully sealed, five-stage HEPA filtration system that captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns, and adds LED illumination to expose dust in darker areas. Other features include a remote-release cleaner head, built-in tools, a crevice tool and a Hair screw tool 2.0 for pet hair and long strands. The launch follows Dyson’s own “How India Cleans” research, which found that many households still miss hard-to-reach areas such as under furniture and along edges, reinforcing the company’s emphasis on reach, visibility and low-maintenance cleaning.
Independent reviews, however, suggest the V16 Piston Animal is not without trade-offs. TechRadar, Tom’s Guide and Tech Advisor have all praised its suction, anti-tangle system and overall versatility, but each noted concerns over edge cleaning and the shape of the floorhead. RTINGS also reported that the larger floorhead can affect carpet pickup in comparison with some earlier Dyson models, while reviewers at Mumsnet pointed to the weight and premium pricing as practical considerations for buyers.
