Samsung's Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Plus put focus on pro users with extended support and massive screens

Samsung has launched the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and S12+ as premium tablets aimed at professionals and creatives, featuring large displays, long software support, and high-end hardware at premium prices.

Samsung has expanded its premium tablet line-up with the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S12+, pitching both models at users who want laptop-style productivity in a slate format. The company says the devices go on sale on 7 October in Grey and Silver, with the Plus model starting at $1,199 and the Ultra at $1,399. A UK price quoted by one launch report puts the tablets at £1,199 and £1,399 respectively, although regional pricing may vary.

The two tablets share much of the same core hardware. According to Samsung’s announcement, both use MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 chip, run Android 17 with One UI 9, and include the S Pen in the box. They also carry IP68 protection against dust and water, as well as Samsung’s promise of seven major operating system upgrades and seven years of security updates. That commitment is significant in the Android tablet market, where long software support remains uneven.

Display and battery capacity remain the main points of difference. The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra uses a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, while the Tab S12+ has a 12.6-inch screen; both operate at 120Hz and reach up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness, with up to 1,000 nits in high-brightness mode, according to Samsung. The Ultra is fitted with an 11,600mAh battery, while the Plus carries a 10,600mAh cell. Samsung and launch reports also say both support 45W wired charging, although the company has not positioned these tablets as speed-focused charging devices.

Storage and memory options are aimed squarely at power users. Samsung says the Ultra can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, while the Plus goes up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Both models also support microSD expansion of up to 2TB. SamMobile reported that the Ultra adds a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 12-megapixel ultrawide front camera, alongside Wi-Fi 7, an in-display fingerprint reader and a newer Bluetooth implementation.

The launch suggests Samsung is concentrating its top-end Android tablet strategy on just two sizes rather than three. Android Central reported that there is no standard Tab S12 model this time, leaving the Plus and Ultra to carry the range. It also noted that the Dimensity 9500 should deliver a substantial performance uplift over the previous generation, even if the rest of the design appears to be more evolutionary than radical. For buyers, the bigger story may be the price: these are expensive tablets, and Samsung is clearly targeting professionals, students and creative users who will pay for the largest screens, bundled stylus and extended support.
