Huawei unveils the Mate 90 RS Ultimate, a premium smartphone featuring a super-bright dual-layer OLED display, a 200MP camera, and a larger battery, offering significant upgrades for photography enthusiasts and power users.
Huawei has introduced the Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design as a more expensive, more heavily specified version of its luxury flagship line, raising the entry price by 1,000 yuan over the Mate 80 RS. In China, Huawei says the handset is available in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB configurations priced at 12,999 yuan, 14,999 yuan and 18,999 yuan respectively, with sales routed through authorised stores and the VMall channel alongside the XMAGE Z10 modular camera system.
The most visible change is the display. Huawei has moved to a new dual-layer OLED panel that it says reaches 12,000 nits peak outdoor brightness, a substantial jump over the previous generation. The company has also added ambient-light detection designed to improve visibility in strong sunlight while easing eye strain in dimmer conditions. Third-party catalogues broadly describe the screen as a 6.9-inch LTPO OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, reinforcing the impression that this remains a large, top-end device aimed at users who want maximum brightness and responsiveness.
Photography is the second major pillar of the upgrade. Huawei has fitted an 18EV Ultra-HDR main camera, which it claims can preserve far more detail in high-contrast scenes such as sunsets or backlit portraits. The phone also uses a third-generation multispectral sensor alongside a 200MP telephoto lens. That combination is intended to improve colour accuracy and portrait rendering across close, distant, dark and brightly lit subjects. Independent listings meanwhile describe a 200MP periscope camera paired with a 50MP main camera and a 40MP ultrawide lens, although specifications vary slightly between catalogues.
Battery life has also been improved. Huawei has increased capacity to 6,800mAh from 6,000mAh, while keeping 100W wired charging support. Some retail listings also mention 50W wireless charging. The phone is reported to be powered by the Kirin 9050 Pro and to ship with 16GB of RAM, placing it squarely in the premium flagship category. With memory prices still elevated, the higher asking price is easier to justify for buyers who value the larger battery, the brighter display, the more advanced imaging stack and the optional XMAGE Z10 camera accessory.
