Users of Google’s Pixel smartphones report persistent software glitches, battery drain, and responsiveness problems across multiple models, raising questions about Google’s update strategy amidst ongoing stability concerns.
Google’s Pixel phones are facing renewed criticism from users who say software faults and stability problems are still disrupting day-to-day use, even on recent handsets such as the Pixel 10 Pro. Reports describe repeated interface glitches, sudden freezes and cases where the only reliable way to recover control is to restart the device.
One of the more disruptive complaints centres on the Pixel Launcher and its app drawer. Users say that opening the drawer can leave a blurred overlay stuck on the home screen, making text unreadable and touch input unusable. Other reports point to the screen turning completely black after a rapid lock-and-unlock sequence, spontaneous reboots, app crash prompts and periods in which the phone stops responding for several minutes.
The pattern is not limited to the home interface. Android Central reported that Google Pixel owners saw unusual battery drain after the April 2026 update, affecting devices from the Pixel 6 series through to the Pixel 10 range. Users said power could disappear quickly even when the phones were idle or in aeroplane mode, with some suggesting the processor was failing to enter deep sleep properly. Android Central said more than 600 complaints were recorded in a week, and Google acknowledged the issue while working on a fix.
Earlier and later updates have also triggered other faults. Android Central reported sluggish behaviour after a Play systems update on Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 models, including unresponsive launchers and slow boot times. Separately, reports linked an Android 17 update to touchscreen bugs, 5G drop-outs, Wi-Fi problems and gesture errors. In its coverage of Android 17 QPR2 Beta 1, Android Central said Google was already addressing Bluetooth reconnection failures, lock-screen media glitches, Gemini-related crashes and touch issues during drag-and-drop actions.
For Pixel owners, the broader concern is that frequent feature updates appear to bring new problems almost as often as they add new functions. While Google has often issued fixes after complaints surface, the repeated cycle has led some experienced users to delay installing major updates until follow-up patches arrive. That scepticism has strengthened the argument that Google should put stability ahead of rapid feature expansion, particularly as it continues to promote new interface changes and artificial intelligence tools.
