Amazon unveils its most comprehensive hardware redesign in years, featuring a new flush-front display and advanced colour technology across its Kindle range, with the standard Kindle now smaller and faster than before.
Amazon has given its Kindle family its most extensive hardware redesign in years, moving the display construction itself rather than simply refining the casing around it. According to Amazon’s announcement, the refreshed range now uses a reverse-stack display structure that produces a flush front across the line-up, with thinner, lighter devices and colour that runs cleanly from bezel to rear shell. The new entry-level Kindle is already available for pre-order in the UAE, while the redesigned Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft have been announced but not yet given local release dates.
The standard Kindle is the clearest beneficiary of the overhaul. The device is now the most compact Amazon has made, with a 6-inch display, 16GB of storage and a battery life rating of up to six weeks. Amazon says books open 30% faster than on the previous generation. In the UAE, the base model is priced at AED 659 in Ube or Graphite, while a new aluminium-backed version with 32GB of storage costs AED 729 in Alpine Sky or Seaglass Green. Amazon says that model uses 80% recycled aluminium, and the standard version includes recycled materials and a battery made with fully recycled cobalt.
The Kindle Paperwhite has also been updated, although buyers in the region will have to wait for a launch date. Amazon describes it as thinner and lighter, with waterproofing, an adjustable warm light and a battery rated for up to 12 weeks. The company also says it now has the largest Paperwhite screen yet and the highest contrast ratio in the range, helped by an oxide thin-film transistor backplane. In the UAE, the 16GB model is listed at AED 849, while the Signature Edition costs AED 959 and adds an aluminium back, 32GB of storage, an auto-adjusting front light and double-tap page turning.
The Colorsoft is likely to attract the most attention, not least because Amazon is attempting to address the uneven edge tinting that affected some early units of the first version. The company says the revised model uses nitride LEDs in the light guide, tiny deflectors to reduce stray light, custom waveforms for quicker performance and a thin optical coating intended to improve clarity. Pricing in the UAE starts at AED 1,119, rising to AED 1,229 for the Signature Edition in Graphite or Fig. Amazon has also said Kindle has recorded double-digit growth for three consecutive years and that readers logged more than 720 billion pages in 2025, underlining how important the range remains even as Amazon reworks the hardware. The unresolved issue for local customers is not the specification sheet but the timetable: the base Kindle is on sale now, while Paperwhite and Colorsoft buyers are still waiting for dates.
