Honor’s latest update to MagicOS 11 includes a novel feature allowing users to set customised charging caps, aiming to reduce battery wear and heat build-up, with options for flexible full-charge exceptions.
Honor is preparing a more flexible battery-preservation option in MagicOS 11, adding a custom charging limit that lets users decide how high the phone should charge. According to Huawei Central and corroborating reports from other outlets, the feature is intended to reduce long-term battery wear by preventing routine full charges, which in turn can slow chemical ageing and capacity loss. The system is also designed to help limit heat build-up during charging, a factor that can contribute to battery degradation over time.
The setting appears in the Battery Health section of MagicOS 11, where users can switch on Custom Charging Limit and choose a target level rather than relying on a fixed preset. Huawei Central says the software offers both a smart protection mode and a customised slider, while Huawei’s own support material states that the charge cap can be set anywhere between 70% and 100%. For day-to-day use, the software recommends an 80% ceiling, reflecting the common view among handset makers that avoiding constant top-ups to 100% can improve battery longevity.
At the same time, Honor is keeping flexibility for people who need a full battery on occasion. Huawei Central and Huawei’s support page both say the handset can be told to ignore the limit for a single session by selecting a “Full Charge This Time” or “Fully charge” prompt during charging. That makes the feature less restrictive than a simple on-off battery saver, because it allows a lower default ceiling without preventing users from charging to 100% when travel, work or extended use makes it necessary.
