Tecno's Camon Slim 5G challenges the notion that phones must get thicker with bigger batteries

Tecno defies the trend of bulky smartphones with its Camon Slim 5G, a remarkably slim device housing a large 6,000mAh battery and advanced features aimed at everyday usability and durability.

TECNO’s CAMON Slim 5G is built around an unusual proposition in a market where handsets often grow thicker as batteries, cameras and displays become more ambitious. The company is aiming to show that a phone can remain exceptionally thin without giving up the practical features that matter day to day. BusinessWorld’s sponsored review says that is the central idea behind the device’s design and hardware mix, while TECNO’s own product page confirms the phone’s 6.39mm profile, 171-gram weight, 6,000mAh battery, 144Hz AMOLED display and Dimensity 7300e chipset.

That combination gives the CAMON Slim 5G a clear point of difference. Despite its slim frame, the phone is presented as durable rather than delicate, with TECNO listing dust and water resistance ratings that include IP69K, IP69, IP68 and IP66. Reviewers from GadgetMatch, Gizmochina, GizChina and Yanko Design likewise noted that the device feels unusually light for a model carrying a large battery, while still projecting a more rugged character than its thin body might suggest. In practice, that means the phone is positioned for users who want a device that is easy to hold, less tiring to carry and less conventionally bulky than many mid-range rivals.

The display is another of its more persuasive features. TECNO describes it as a 6.78-inch, 1.5K, 144Hz Ultra-Bright AMOLED panel, and both BusinessWorld’s hands-on write-up and third-party reviews say that scrolling, video playback and general navigation benefit from the higher refresh rate and strong colour output. The company has also added touch functions for awkward conditions, including wet-hand recognition, rain touch support and operation through a waterproof case. Those features may sound minor, but they are the kind of practical refinements that matter most when a phone is used outdoors or immediately after exercise.

Photography is clearly one of TECNO’s priorities here. The CAMON Slim 5G uses a 50-megapixel Sony LYTIA 700C main camera with optical image stabilisation, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 32-megapixel front camera. The review from BusinessWorld says the main sensor produced detailed daylight images with vivid colour and respectable low-light performance, while TECNO has added features such as Super-Zoom FlashSnap, portrait framing options at 24mm, 35mm and 50mm, and its Universal Tone system for skin-tone processing. Alongside the phone, TECNO introduced the MagBadge, a magnetic accessory with a 1.73-inch AMOLED display that can act as a remote shutter, a preview screen and a selfie aid.

TECNO is also leaning heavily on AI, but in a more utilitarian way than many handset launches. The company says tools such as AI Snap Poster, AI Pet Together, AI LightMaster 2.0, AI Recording Notes, AI Class Schedule and AI Healthy Eating are intended to help with tasks ranging from product promotion to lecture transcription and meal estimation. Under the hood, the Dimensity 7300e is not a flagship chip, yet the phone is aimed at ordinary social media, photography, multitasking and gaming rather than peak benchmark performance. TECNO says the handset runs HiOS 16 and will receive five years of security updates and three major Android version upgrades.

In the Philippines, the CAMON Slim 5G went on sale on October 1, with pre-orders running from October 2 to 15. TECNO has priced the 256GB model with 8GB of physical RAM and 16GB of extended RAM at PHP27,999, while the 128GB version with 8GB of RAM costs PHP24,999 and is sold exclusively through TikTok Shop. The company is also offering financing through several lenders, and offline pre-orders come with additional gifts and discounts, including a MagBadge, extended warranty cover and a chance to win larger cash prizes. The sales pitch is straightforward: the CAMON Slim 5G is not trying to be the fastest phone in its class, but it is trying to prove that thinness, battery life and everyday usefulness do not have to be mutually exclusive.
