Quanta Computer reports a 76.7% year-on-year rise in September revenue driven by strong demand for AI servers, highlighting a sharp contrast with ongoing PC market declines and expanding global manufacturing capacity.
Quanta Computer said its September revenue rose sharply from a year earlier as demand for artificial intelligence servers continued to underpin the business, even as the monthly figure eased from August’s record high because of shipment timing tied to customer schedules. The Taiwanese contract manufacturer reported September sales of NT$325.3 billion, up 76.7% year on year and the strongest September on record. Revenue for the third quarter reached NT$1.11554 trillion, while year-to-date sales totalled NT$2.96135 trillion, almost double the level a year earlier, according to the company’s statement reported by Liberty Times.
The stronger quarterly performance also reflected the scale of Quanta’s AI server franchise. The company said production of Nvidia’s GB300 platform was proceeding smoothly and in line with customers’ delivery timetables. It added that trial production of the next-generation Vera Rubin system had begun at the end of the third quarter, with small-volume shipments expected in the fourth quarter and a larger ramp anticipated in the first quarter of next year. Quanta described the gap between accounting cut-off dates and actual customer pull-ins as one reason for volatility in monthly revenue, but said this did not alter its more constructive view of the quarter or the full year, according to Liberty Times.
Quanta also reiterated that the personal computer market remains weak. It said its earlier expectation of a double-digit decline in the full-year PC market had not changed, and that the stronger first-half notebook demand had mainly reflected customers’ efforts to build inventory in response to higher memory costs and uneven supply. September notebook shipments reached 4.2 million units, helped by quarter-end demand, but that was still down from a year earlier. For the third quarter, notebook shipments were 9.6 million units, below the previous quarter and also lower than a year earlier, according to the company.
The revenue trend sits alongside Quanta’s longer-term expansion strategy. In its 2023 sustainability report, the company said it shipped 46.9 million notebooks that year and continued to broaden manufacturing capacity in the United States, Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam and Germany to support global demand. The same report showed annual consolidated revenue of NT$1.09 trillion in 2023, underscoring how quickly the AI server business has since enlarged the group’s scale. Quanta has also used shareholder meetings to highlight its record growth, saying last year that revenue had exceeded NT$2 trillion amid strong AI server demand.
