Anthropic’s new Google Workspace add-on for Claude allows paid users to seamlessly collaborate within Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, enhancing productivity with AI-driven edits and creations in a public beta rollout.
Anthropic has brought Claude into Google Workspace, giving paid users a way to work with the assistant inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides rather than moving between separate apps. The company said the add-on opens in a sidebar alongside the file being edited, allowing Claude to read visible content, act on selected text, cells or slides, and apply changes directly in the document. The rollout is in public beta for all paid Claude plans, with users able to review each edit or let Claude apply changes automatically.
The integration is designed to handle different tasks across Google’s core productivity tools. In Docs, Claude can revise wording, adjust headings and make broader structural edits. In Sheets, it can build formulas, create pivot tables and charts, add new tabs, and help clean or merge data. In Slides, it can generate new slides that follow the presentation’s existing design, while also flagging layout issues such as overlapping elements or text that is difficult to read.
Anthropic says the same workflow now extends in the other direction as well. New connectors allow users to create and edit Google files from Claude’s chat interface, including by pasting in a file link or asking Claude to produce a new document, spreadsheet or presentation. The service keeps the same Google sharing permissions already attached to the file. For now, the connectors are limited to Docs, Sheets and Slides, while broader Google Workspace support continues to be developed through Anthropic’s integrations work, which is built on the Model Context Protocol.
Anthropic’s help pages note that the feature is available both in Claude and Claude Desktop, although some functions remain in beta and may have reliability limits. Team and Enterprise customers need an owner or primary owner to enable the connectors at the organisation level before individual users can connect their accounts. The add-on can be installed from the Google Workspace Marketplace, then opened from within a Google file through the Extensions menu.
