Xreal has opened pre-orders for its high-end Aura Android XR glasses in select markets, featuring cutting-edge display technology, customisable dimming modes, and a lightweight design ahead of a wider release expected before the holiday season.
Xreal has opened pre-orders for its Aura Android XR glasses for reservation holders in the United States, Canada, Japan and South Korea, with more markets to follow. The move turns an earlier reservation programme into a limited sales phase, allowing eligible customers to secure units ahead of a wider release.
The pricing places Aura firmly in the premium end of the emerging smart-glasses market. The base model costs $1,279 and comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the higher-specification version is priced at $1,499 with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Xreal has also indicated that wider public orders are expected in the coming weeks, suggesting the current window remains restricted to those who already paid to reserve a pair.
Aura is built around an optical see-through display system, using two Sony Micro-OLED panels with a 1920×1200 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Xreal says the glasses offer a 70-degree field of view, with transparent lenses that let wearers keep sight of the real world. An electrochromic dimming mode can darken the view when users want greater focus on the screen content, a design choice aimed at balancing mixed-reality use with situational awareness.
The glasses themselves weigh less than 95g, but the battery and controls sit in a separate puck that includes a 4,455mAh battery, a trackpad and a fingerprint sensor. That puck also helps keep the glasses lighter on the face while housing much of the computing and power management hardware. Aura runs Android XR and includes Google’s Gemini assistant, while Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite chip provides the processing platform. Xreal has said shipping is expected before the holidays, although delivery will depend on production, inspection and logistics.
