Apple’s standard and wall-mounted HomeView hubs look different, but their audio hardware also diverges sharply, making one a clear choice for music fans.
Apple has introduced HomeView, its long-awaited smart home hub, and the difference between the two versions goes beyond appearance. The company is offering a standard model with a domed speaker base and a wall-mounted version intended for fixed installation, but the audio hardware is not the same. Apple says the base model is the more capable speaker, with a custom acoustic system that includes a down-firing woofer, two full-range drivers and dual force-cancelling passive radiators. It is also designed to deliver room-filling sound with Spatial Audio and computational audio that adjusts bass and loudness in real time. The wall-mounted model still includes built-in speakers and Spatial Audio support, but Apple describes it as having two custom drivers and audio tuning optimised for placement on a wall. In practical terms, that means buyers who care about music playback or fuller sound are likely to get more from the standard version, while the wall-mounted variant is better suited to users who prioritise integration and convenience over speaker performance.
