GIGABYTE pairs Ryzen 9 9950HX3D with RTX 5090 in $4,800 AORUS MASTER 16 Gen 2

GIGABYTE’s AORUS MASTER 16 Gen 2 combines AMD’s 16-core Ryzen 9 9950HX3D with an RTX 5090 or RTX 5080, a 240Hz OLED display and 230W cooling system in a premium 16-inch chassis.

GIGABYTE’s AORUS MASTER 16 Gen 2 is being positioned as one of the few gaming laptops built around a genuinely elite CPU-and-GPU pairing, with the company offering configurations that combine AMD’s Ryzen 9 9950HX3D with either an RTX 5090 or RTX 5080 Laptop GPU. According to the launch material, the appeal is straightforward: maximise frame rates in a chassis that remains portable enough for daily use, while still offering the kind of component headroom usually reserved for far larger systems.

The processor choice is central to that pitch. GIGABYTE says the Ryzen 9 9950HX3D brings 16 cores, boost speeds of up to 5.40GHz, a 140W thermal design power and 128MB of L3 cache through AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology. In practical terms, that cache is intended to reduce latency and improve gaming performance, particularly in titles that respond well to additional on-die cache. The graphics options are equally ambitious, with the RTX 5090 model carrying 24GB of GDDR7 memory and the RTX 5080 version using 16GB, both aimed at keeping demanding modern games running at high settings without obvious memory constraints.

Thermals are a major concern in any laptop at this level, and GIGABYTE says the AORUS MASTER 16 Gen 2 uses its WINDFORCE Infinity EX cooling system to manage up to 230W of total thermal power. The design combines dual Frost Fan 2.0 units, a vapor chamber with broader coverage, ultra-thin fins and four exhaust paths, alongside acoustic measures intended to limit noise. That matters because reviews of the wider AORUS Master 16 family have consistently praised its performance but also noted the cost of sustaining it: TechRadar and PC Gamer both reported loud fans under load, while also highlighting strong gaming results and a high-quality OLED panel.

The display is one of the machine’s clearest strengths. GIGABYTE equips the laptop with a 16-inch OLED screen in a 16:10 format, running at 2,560 x 1,600 with a 240Hz refresh rate and a quoted 0.2ms response time. The panel is also specified at 100% DCI-P3 coverage and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification, which should make it attractive not only to gamers but also to users who care about colour accuracy. Hardware support inside the chassis includes two SODIMM slots for up to 64GB of DDR5 memory, plus one PCIe Gen 5 SSD slot and one PCIe Gen 4 slot, giving the system a sensible mix of speed and expandability.

GIGABYTE also lists a 99Wh battery with PD 3.0 support, Wi-Fi 7, an FHD IR webcam with Windows Hello, and a fairly complete port selection split across both sides of the chassis. Pricing remains firmly in premium territory: the RTX 5090 configuration with 32GB of memory and a 2TB SSD is listed at $4,799.99 on Amazon, while the RTX 5080 model is priced at $3,399.99 with 32GB of memory and a smaller SSD. That places the AORUS MASTER 16 Gen 2 squarely in the enthusiast category, where buyers are paying not just for speed, but for a rare combination of top-end silicon, OLED imagery and a relatively restrained 16-inch form factor.
