Meta’s $1,300 VR Glasses will make expandable storage an official extra

SanDisk will launch certified microSD Express cards and USB-C drives alongside Meta’s 2027 headset, which is expected to include just 128GB of built-in storage.

SanDisk has been named the exclusive storage partner for Meta’s upcoming VR Glasses, with the company set to release official “Made for Meta” microSD Express cards and USB-C flash drives when the headset goes on sale in spring 2027. According to SanDisk, the accessories have been developed and tested with Meta and will be sold in every market where the headset is available.

The partnership points to a device that will rely on expandable storage more heavily than many current standalone headsets. Meta VR Glasses are expected to ship with 128GB of internal storage and carry a price tag of $1,300, according to the information circulating around the launch. That relatively modest built-in capacity makes additional storage more important for users planning to install larger games, applications and mixed-reality content.

SanDisk has not disclosed the capacities, speeds or pricing of the new products, and it has also not said whether Meta will restrict the headset to certified cards only. The company likewise has not clarified whether USB-C flash drives will match the functions offered by the microSD option. Even so, the arrival of an official storage line suggests Meta is preparing a more tightly managed accessories ecosystem around the headset.

UploadVR reported that the new products are intended to support both the upcoming Meta VR Glasses and other Meta VR devices, while SanDisk’s own announcement framed the collaboration as a way to improve compatibility and performance. For buyers, the clearest immediate takeaway is simple: Meta’s next headset appears to be moving into a market where storage expansion will be an official, rather than improvised, part of the experience.
