Suunto Run 2 targets marathon runners with 35g design and live finish predictions

Suunto’s new Run 2 combines dual-band GPS, offline maps and race-focused training tools in a 35g sports watch, launched alongside a higher-resolution heart-rate belt.

Suunto has expanded its running line-up with the Run 2, a sports watch aimed squarely at road runners and marathon preparation. The company says the device is built to cover training, race-day use and recovery in one package, combining route guidance, workout planning and performance tracking in a compact case. It is also being sold alongside the new Smart Heart Rate Belt 2, which is designed to provide a more detailed chest-worn heart-rate feed during sessions.

The watch’s defining feature is its low weight of 35g. Suunto says the case is about 11.7mm thick and houses a 1.32-inch AMOLED display rated at 2,000 nits, which should make it easier to read in direct sunlight. Positioning is handled by a new-generation dual-band GNSS system, while wrist-based heart-rate tracking uses a redesigned 12-channel optical sensor. Battery life is quoted at around 10 days in everyday use, or up to 24 hours with dual-band GNSS active.

Beyond basic distance, pace and heart-rate logging, the Run 2 adds a set of tools intended to support structured training. Suunto highlights offline maps, EnergySense, which compares current effort with remaining capacity, and Live Finish Prediction, which updates the likely finishing time during a run. Training Plan and Training Zone are designed to help users organise sessions and monitor training load, HRV, sleep and recovery, while Marathon Mode groups together features aimed at race management.

Suunto has also launched the Smart Heart Rate Belt 2, which the company says delivers beat-by-beat heart-rate capture and high-resolution R-R interval data. According to Suunto, the belt supports ZoneSense and, when paired with a compatible watch, can provide deeper running metrics including cadence, ground-contact time, vertical oscillation and flight time. The Run 2 is offered in All Black, Aloe Green and Feather Gold, with 4GB and 64GB versions priced at €299 and €349 respectively, while the belt is listed at €99 in XS/S and M/L sizes.
