Sennheiser’s premium earbuds deliver detailed sound, stronger noise cancellation and rare user-replaceable batteries, but only average battery life and limited smart features.
Sennheiser’s latest flagship true wireless earbuds are aimed squarely at listeners who value sound quality first, then everything else. The Momentum True Wireless 5 arrive as a more refined successor to the Momentum True Wireless 4, but they also enter a crowded premium market, where rivals such as Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 and other high-end earbuds have raised expectations on noise cancellation, battery life and smart features. India Today Tech says the new model costs Rs 29,990, placing it firmly in premium territory and giving it a clear brief: justify the price with performance rather than novelty.
The design is more restrained than before. According to India Today Tech, the earbuds are smaller and more rounded, which makes them easier to wear for longer periods, while the charging case is slimmer and easier to carry. The review notes that the case feels solid, with strong magnets, although the lid can still creak slightly, which jars at this level. Sennheiser also includes four sizes of eartips, and the reviewer found the fit comfortable over several hours. Other recent reviews point in the same direction, with RTINGS and SoundGuys both praising the ergonomic shape and secure fit, while also noting that the replaceable batteries are unusual for a product in this class.
On sound, the Momentum True Wireless 5 are pitched as an audiophile product rather than a feature-led one. India Today Tech reports that the 7mm dynamic drivers produce clear separation between vocals and instruments, with bass that does not overwhelm the mids. The review also says the earbuds handle high volumes without obvious distortion and support 24-bit/96kHz high-resolution audio. Tom’s Guide similarly describes the tuning as rich and balanced, while What Hi-Fi? calls the overall presentation crisp and detailed. There is a caveat, though: Sennheiser leans on Qualcomm’s aptX family rather than Sony’s LDAC, so Android users need compatible hardware to get the full benefit. The absence of LDAC or LHDC may matter less to casual listeners, but it remains relevant for buyers who closely track codec support.
The noise-cancellation system is another area where Sennheiser appears to have made meaningful gains. India Today Tech says the earbuds use eight microphones in total and do a strong job of reducing office chatter, air-conditioning noise and traffic rumble. The review describes the effect as almost cocoon-like in busy environments. RTINGS also highlights improved ANC performance, while SoundGuys says the isolation is effective. Transparency mode is available as well, and India Today Tech found it helpful for staying aware of surroundings, although it can make external sound feel slightly over-amplified at times. That is a common trade-off in premium earbuds, and it remains one of the areas where tuning matters as much as raw microphone count.
Battery life is more complicated. India Today Tech reports up to six hours of playback with ANC enabled from the earbuds themselves, and up to 40 hours with the charging case and noise cancellation switched off. The review says that figure is acceptable rather than class-leading, and charging over USB-C takes more than an hour. What separates the Momentum True Wireless 5 from most competitors, however, is the user-replaceable battery design. Both RTINGS and SoundGuys single this out as a rare and welcome feature, and it gives the product a stronger long-term sustainability angle than many rivals can match. Sennheiser also supports wireless charging, adding a measure of convenience to the package.
The companion Smart Control Plus app is where much of the customisation lives. India Today Tech says it offers ANC controls, equaliser options, lossless-audio settings, sound zones and a fit test, while other reviews note that the app’s graphic EQ gives users useful scope to fine-tune the sound. The India Today Tech review also flags the touch controls as slightly cramped, with some double taps being misread. More advanced extras are limited compared with some competing earbuds, and the company has not tried to overload the product with features such as live translation or temperature sensing. That keeps the focus on audio. For buyers who want the best possible wireless listening experience, rather than the most feature-packed one, the Momentum True Wireless 5 make a strong case for themselves.
