Garmin’s flagship golf watch adds AI-assisted club selection, swing analysis and green-reading tools to a luxury smartwatch with health tracking, voice calling and up to 10 days of battery life.
Garmin’s Approach S72 has arrived as a more ambitious attempt to merge serious golf analysis with a premium everyday smartwatch. The model sits at the top end of the company’s golf range and, according to Garmin’s launch material, is offered in 43mm and 47mm versions with a titanium bezel, sapphire crystal lens and AMOLED display. The price starts at $799.99, placing it firmly in luxury territory for golfers who want both course data and broader smartwatch functions.
What distinguishes the watch is the way it combines familiar distance tools with more advanced decision support. Reports on the launch say it adds enhanced swing metrics, putting and green-reading information, and a virtual caddie system that uses conditions such as wind and elevation alongside a golfer’s own shot history. That approach is designed to do more than show a yardage; it is meant to help users choose clubs and plan shots with less reliance on instinct alone.
Battery life and health tracking are also central to the product’s appeal. Gizmochina reported that the S72 offers up to 10 days in standard smartwatch mode and around 15 hours with GPS active during a round, while Garmin’s wider feature set includes ECG capability. Other launch coverage says the watch also brings a built-in flashlight, voice calling and broader full-day health monitoring, pushing it beyond the narrower remit of a dedicated golf accessory.
That breadth, however, comes with a cost. At this level, the S72 is aimed at committed players who will make use of its more technical course features, rather than casual golfers who only want basic yardages and course maps. PlayBetter notes that less expensive Garmin models may represent better value for buyers who do not need the full depth of swing analysis, biometrics and premium smartwatch extras. For golfers who do want a single device that can handle both the tee box and daily wear, the Approach S72 looks like Garmin’s most complete statement yet in this category.
