The Smart Switch 2 Pro adds app, voice and automation controls to existing lighting circuits, with support for older homes that lack a neutral wire.
Xiaomi has launched the Smart Switch 2 Pro, a wall switch intended to bring older lighting circuits into a connected-home setup without replacing ordinary bulbs. According to Canaltech and Gizmochina, the device is being sold through Xiaomi Youpin crowdfunding and is positioned as a retrofit product for homes that want app control, voice commands and automation without changing the existing lighting hardware.
A notable feature is its support for both neutral-wire and no-neutral installations. That matters in older properties, where the neutral conductor is often absent from the switch box and an upgrade can otherwise require additional electrical work. Xiaomi says the switch can detect the wiring type and adjust the available settings in the Mi Home app, while the two-button and three-button versions also allow users to remap which key controls which light from software.
The company has also built in a secondary wireless control mode. In that configuration, a physical button can trigger other Xiaomi devices instead of directly switching a circuit on or off. That makes it possible to use the panel as a scene controller for actions such as starting a robot vacuum, turning on an air purifier or launching a broader departure or arrival routine across the home.
Connectivity is handled through Xiaomi Mesh 2.0, with the company claiming faster response times and quicker network joining than the previous generation. Support for Xiaomi HyperOS Connect, Mi Home and XiaoAI voice control is also included, although users still need a compatible Bluetooth Mesh gateway for the smart functions to work. The switch can handle loads of up to 10 A and 2,200 W, and Xiaomi says it has been tested for 1 million presses, with over-the-air firmware updates and energy-use monitoring available through the app.
Design is another part of the pitch. The front panel is only 3.5 mm thick and uses anti-glare glass with an anti-fingerprint coating, while an internal steel frame is meant to improve rigidity after installation. Beneath the glass, the buttons use physical micro-switches rather than a touch surface, giving the unit a more conventional tactile feel. Pricing on Xiaomi Youpin starts at ¥114 for the single-key model, rising to ¥133 for two keys and ¥152 for three keys. Canaltech notes that there is no confirmed launch beyond China yet, including for Brazil.
