POCO X8 brings an 8,340mAh battery to Spain’s mid-range phone market

POCO’s X8 arrives in Spain with a huge battery, bright 120Hz AMOLED display and rugged protection, but its camera limitations and close pricing to the X8 Pro make endurance its main reason to buy.

POCO’s X8 arrives in Spain as a handset built around one clear priority: endurance. The model is being sold in two memory configurations, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage priced at €399.99, while the 12GB version with the same storage rises to €449.99. That places it firmly in the crowded mid-range, where every compromise matters and the value equation is often decided by one standout feature. According to POCO’s specifications page, the device pairs that pricing with a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel, a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chip and an 8,340mAh battery.

The battery is the phone’s defining trait. At 8,340mAh, it is well above the capacity of most rivals in this segment, and POCO also lists 67W wired charging support. That combination is aimed at users who spend long days away from a socket, stream a lot of video or simply want a phone that can cope with heavy use without constant top-ups. Independent coverage from Gizmochina and Notebookcheck also places the X8’s battery life among its strongest selling points, alongside its fast charging and rugged design.

The display is another major draw. POCO says the X8 uses a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, while third-party reviews describe it as bright, colourful and suited to multimedia use. Beebom notes a 1.5K panel with peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits, and Notebookcheck similarly highlights the screen as a strong point. In practical terms, this is the part of the phone most likely to justify its bulk: it is clearly designed for reading, social media and video rather than for pocket-friendly dimensions.

Build quality is also unusually serious for a phone at this level. POCO lists IP68 and IP69K resistance for water and dust protection, and reviews describe the X8 as more robust than its price might suggest. Notebookcheck says the handset carries multiple durability certifications, while InnoReviews also reports Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. Even so, the device still depends heavily on plastic construction, and the larger battery inevitably makes it thick and heavy compared with slimmer alternatives.

Camera performance appears to be where POCO has made the clearest trade-off. The official specification sheet lists a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilisation and a 16-megapixel front camera, but there is no sign of a more versatile rear setup with an ultra-wide lens. Notebookcheck warns that low-light photography is a weak point, while the Spanish review from MovilZona says the phone is capable in everyday shooting but less convincing for night scenes, landscape work or video. That limitation matters because the X8’s own catalogue complicates the case for buying it at full price: the POCO X8 Pro is reported to sit close to the same price in its base version, making the standard X8 harder to recommend unless battery life is the priority above all else.

For buyers who want a long-lasting phone first and everything else second, the POCO X8 makes a coherent case. It has the battery, screen and toughness to suit heavy daily use, and its 256GB base storage avoids one of the common frustrations of cheaper mid-range devices. But the broader market makes the decision less straightforward. MovilZona points to alternatives such as the Redmi Note 17 Pro, Samsung’s Galaxy A36 and vivo’s V70 FE, each of which brings a different balance of software support, battery life and overall specification. In other words, the X8 is sensible only for a specific kind of user: one who values endurance so highly that it outweighs stronger cameras, better performance or a more polished software package.
