Philips Hue’s Secure Starter Kit combines a 1080p camera, contact sensors, colour-changing bulbs and a Bridge in one package, now discounted by almost €140 on Amazon.
Philips Hue’s Secure Starter Kit bundles the main pieces of a connected home security set-up into one package: a wired 1080p camera, two contact sensors, two White and Color Ambiance E26 bulbs and the Bridge that ties the system together. The kit is currently listed on Amazon at €209.98, down from a previous price of €349, making it a more accessible entry point into Hue’s security-focused ecosystem.
According to Philips Hue, the camera offers 1080p live streaming, a 141.2-degree field of view, infrared night vision and end-to-end encryption. In practical terms, that means the feed is designed to cover a wide area while keeping transmission secure. When motion is detected, the camera can push a smartphone alert or trigger Hue lighting, and the app can also activate a siren with a single tap.
The two contact sensors are intended for indoor use and can be fitted to doors, windows, cabinets or safes with the adhesive pads supplied. Philips Hue says screws can also be used, although they are not included. The sensors run on Zigbee, use CR2 batteries and are rated for a claimed battery life of two years. Hue also says the app records the time of the last activation and flags tampering, while the kit requires a Bridge and the Hue app on Android 10 or later, or iOS 16 or later.
The included bulbs are more than a lighting add-on: they are part of the response layer, flashing or changing state when the camera or a sensor detects an issue. Philips Hue says the Bridge also enables integration with Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, Samsung SmartThings and Matter, so the package can be expanded later with additional Hue devices. Notebookcheck reported that the Secure Starter Kit has been launched in Europe and North America as a broader smart home security option, while reviews of Hue’s wider starter kits consistently describe the platform as reliable but relatively expensive, with the Bridge remaining central to unlocking the full feature set.
