Apple’s new AI devices make the iPhone their hidden command centre

From Apple TV 4K to HomeView and Apple Watch, the company’s latest features rely on a nearby iPhone for personal data, processing and access to apps.

Apple’s latest artificial intelligence push suggests the iPhone is becoming the quiet engine behind a wider range of devices, rather than a product that stands alone. According to Macworld’s reporting, Siri AI on the new Apple TV 4K will not rely solely on the set-top box itself. Instead, it will offload personal requests to a nearby iPhone that is signed into the same account and has been unlocked recently, a design that points to a broader strategy for Apple’s hardware ecosystem.

That same pattern appears in HomeView, Apple’s new home hub. Apple’s announcement says the device has a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, Siri AI integration and facial recognition for up to six people, but the service’s handling of personal information still depends on a paired iPhone or iPad that is on the same Wi-Fi network and has been recently unlocked. In practice, that means the hub is designed less as a self-sufficient computer and more as a front end for data and intelligence already anchored in a user’s phone.

The approach also helps explain why HomeView can support audio and video apps without having its own App Store. MacRumors reported that compatible apps can be surfaced from a connected iPhone or iPad, allowing the hub to present entertainment and communication features that are actually running through the user’s existing device. That makes the iPhone not just a companion, but the control point for services that Apple wants to spread across the home.

The same dependence is already visible elsewhere in Apple’s line-up. Macworld noted that the Apple Watch Series 12’s Audio Intelligence feature, which can summarise conversations and rewind the last 15 seconds of speech, does most of its work through the iPhone rather than on the watch itself. Taken together with Apple’s own HomeView materials and preorder page, which list availability from 13 November 2026, the pattern is clear: Apple is building a distributed AI system in which the iPhone remains the trusted hub for personal context, identity and compute.
