8BitDo brings contact-free drop-and-charge dock to Xbox controllers

The $29.99 officially licensed dock uses a 1,000mAh semi-solid-state battery pack to recharge Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One controllers without exposed charging contacts.

8BitDo has introduced a new officially licensed charging dock for Xbox controllers, extending its accessory line with a wireless option for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One gamepads. Priced at $29.99, the dock is designed to replace traditional contact-based charging with a drop-and-charge setup that begins replenishing the controller battery as soon as it is seated on the base.

The system uses a 1,000mAh semi-solid-state lithium battery pack that fits into the controller’s battery compartment. Once installed, the pack is charged through the dock rather than through exposed metal contacts on the controller itself. According to 8BitDo, a full charge takes about 3.5 hours, making the accessory suitable for routine overnight or between-session charging rather than rapid top-ups.

The dock also includes an ambient LED indicator that glows amber while charging and switches to white when the battery is full. Users can choose between two brightness levels, which may make it easier to place the dock in a bedroom, office or living room without unwanted light spill. 8BitDo says the unit is available in black and white, keeping the design understated rather than decorative.

Beyond the charging mechanism, the dock is built with passive cooling in mind. The company says it uses engineered airflow channels for fanless heat dissipation and includes protections against overvoltage, overcurrent and overheating. The launch follows other Xbox-themed variants from 8BitDo, including special editions tied to the Gears of War and Xbox 25th anniversary ranges, showing that the company is continuing to build out a broader ecosystem around Microsoft’s consoles.
