Vivo’s Buds Ultra arrive in Europe with hybrid dual-driver acoustics, LDAC, adaptive noise cancellation and up to 50 hours of battery life, starting at €199.
Vivo has brought what appears to be the same true wireless earbuds it launched in China in June to Europe under a new name, the Buds Ultra. The rebranded model keeps the company’s hybrid acoustic design, pairing a compact Knowles-balanced armature driver with a dual-fold dynamic driver arranged coaxially to align bass and treble output. Vivo says the design is intended to improve tonal balance, while a separate acoustic tube is used to keep low and high frequencies apart. The specification sheet also lists a 16Hz to 60kHz frequency response, an independent hi-fi DAC with a 113dB dynamic range, and LDAC support at up to 990kbps.
Noise cancellation is a major selling point. Vivo says the Buds Ultra use four microphones and an Intelligent Noise Cancellation 2.0 system that can cut noise by up to 60dB, with a 28dB average across a 5,500Hz range. An adaptive mode adjusts between active noise cancellation and transparency automatically, and there are presets for planes, subways and buses. For calls, vivo combines a bone conduction sensor with three microphones and claims wind noise reduction of up to 99%. Battery life is rated at up to 11 hours per earbud with ANC switched off, or 50 hours including the charging case, while five minutes of charging is said to deliver two hours of playback. The case also supports wireless charging, and the earbuds themselves carry an IP54 rating for dust and sweat resistance, although the case is not protected to the same level.
Connectivity and controls are broad for a premium model. The Buds Ultra can stay linked to three devices at once, and users can manage playback through pressure-sensitive touch areas that respond to presses and swipes. Vivo also includes spatial audio with Theatre, Concert Hall, Studio and Concert modes, a 10-band equaliser, personalised hearing profiles, remote camera control and a find-my-earbuds function. Some of these features are built into compatible vivo phones, while Android users on other devices will need the vEarphones app. In Europe, the buds are available in Glacier White and Cosmic Black, with pricing set at €199, though vivo’s own stores in Spain and Portugal are currently offering them at €169.
