tado° adds room-by-room AI window detection and mould risk alerts

tado° is introducing AI-assisted window-open detection that learns each room’s behaviour, alongside a time-based mould index, a customisable app home screen and expanded Apple Live Activities.

tado° is rolling out a set of app and heating features next month, led by an AI-assisted window-open detection system, a room-level mould index, a customisable home screen and Apple Live Activities for its heating boost mode. The German smart-heating company says the changes build on its existing heating controls and AI Assist service, with the staggered release beginning with the redesigned home screen, which is already available.

The new window-open detection for tado° X is designed to learn how each room behaves rather than relying only on generic signals such as a sudden drop in humidity. tado° says the updated algorithm will take account of room-specific patterns, helping it distinguish more accurately between spaces such as bedrooms, kitchens and bathrooms. The app will also show when the system is still learning a room and when it has finished optimising its model, giving users more visibility into how the detection works.

The company is also adding a mould index at room level. According to tado°, the feature is based on the Finnish VTT growth model, which assesses how temperature and humidity conditions influence the likelihood of mould formation. Instead of using a single humidity reading, the index considers how conditions change over time and classifies each room as low, elevated or high risk. The result is intended to warn users earlier if a room is becoming favourable to mould growth.

Another update will let users rearrange tiles on the tado° app home screen or hide those they do not use. Hidden tiles can later be restored, allowing the interface to be tailored to the rooms and functions that matter most. tado° says this change is available to all users.

Apple Live Activities are also being extended to the heating boost feature. On supported Apple devices, users will be able to see boost status on the iPhone lock screen and Dynamic Island, as well as on Apple Watch and Mac. tado° says users will also receive a shortcut for returning heating to the normal schedule without opening the app.

The company says the new AI-powered window-open detection and mould index will be included in AI Assist, which costs €3.99 a month or €29.99 a year. That subscription also covers features such as automated geofencing, hydraulic balancing, preheating before arrival and adaptive heating. tado° says the Apple Live Activities feature will be available at no extra cost to tado° X users in beta.
