RedMagic 12 Pro+ pairs a 185Hz notch-free display with an 8,400mAh battery

REDMAGIC’s latest flagship gaming phone raises the refresh-rate ceiling to 185Hz while adding a larger battery, expanded liquid cooling and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 performance.

REDMAGIC has unveiled the 2026 RedMagic 12 Pro+ in China, positioning the handset as its latest high-end model for users who want a phone built first and foremost for gaming. The device is expected to receive a global release later, and its specification sheet reflects a clear push towards faster visuals, stronger cooling and a larger battery, according to Gizmochina, Beebom, EnosTech, FoneArena and Technetbook.

At the centre of the launch is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, paired with a 6.85-inch display that keeps the same size as the previous generation but now runs at up to 185Hz rather than 144Hz. The panel remains free of a notch or hole-punch because REDMAGIC continues to use an under-display front camera, a combination the company says is a first for a phone offering both 185Hz refresh and under-panel camera technology. The new model also keeps the screen resolution at 2688 x 1216 pixels while thinning the bezels further, according to the launch coverage.

Pricing in China starts at 6,999 yuan for the 12GB/256GB version. The 16GB/512GB model costs 7,999 yuan, while the 16GB/1TB option is priced at 8,999 yuan. Several reports also note an upcoming Golden Saga edition with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, aimed at buyers who want a more exclusive configuration.

Cooling remains one of the phone’s main differentiators. REDMAGIC combines an internal fan with liquid cooling, and the new design expands the liquid loop so that it now covers both the battery side and the chipset area. The system uses a more powerful pump, higher-pressure circulation and improved heat-dissipation materials, with the company claiming this helps keep temperatures in check during long gaming sessions. The back of the phone still exposes part of the cooling hardware through a transparent design, turning the thermal system into a visual feature as well as a functional one.

The battery has been increased to 8,400mAh, up from 7,500mAh in the prior model, while wired charging stays at 120W and wireless charging at 80W. Even with that larger cell and the more elaborate cooling setup, the handset is slightly slimmer and lighter than before at 8.55mm thick and 223g. One notable omission is the 3.5mm headphone jack, which has now been removed.

REDMAGIC has also updated the software and gaming controls. The phone runs REDMAGIC OS 12 based on Android 17, with a redesigned interface, a new “AI Magic Island” notification area around the front camera and support for file transfer compatible with Apple’s AirDrop. On the hardware side, shoulder triggers are retained, the side-mounted gaming button remains, and the device supports up to 185Hz operation in supported titles, with REDMAGIC saying its RedCore R5 chip can help interpolate frames in non-supported games. The result is a device that, on paper, is more aggressively tuned for mobile gaming than for general-purpose smartphone use.
