With flagship phones abandoning expandable storage, Apple, Samsung and a small group of rivals are targeting Indian buyers who need maximum room for games, video and creative apps.
For buyers in India who routinely juggle large games, video files and high-end creative apps, 1TB of built-in storage has become a practical threshold rather than a luxury. That matters more now that flagship phones have largely abandoned microSD expansion, and even devices that still support removable cards often restrict what can be stored there. The result is a small, premium segment in which Apple and Samsung dominate, with a handful of other models joining the list for users willing to pay for maximum headroom.
Among the strongest options is Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro, which launched on September 9 and is positioned below the larger Pro Max variant. According to recent phone rankings from TechRadar and What Hi-Fi, the model stands out not just for its storage ceiling but for its combination of performance, display quality and camera refinement. It uses Apple’s A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm process, carries a triple 48-megapixel rear camera system with a variable-aperture main sensor, and includes an 18-megapixel front camera with Centre Stage. In India, the 1TB version is priced at Rs. 2,39,900.
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra is the clearest Android rival. Android Central says it brings one of the most visible upgrades in the category with a Privacy Display intended to reduce shoulder surfing, alongside a redesigned camera block, a 200-megapixel main sensor and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor. The phone also offers a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 1Hz to 120Hz refresh rate, a 5,000mAh battery and 60W wired charging. Samsung prices the 1TB model in India at Rs. 2,04,999, which makes it cheaper than Apple’s top-end equivalent while still firmly in flagship territory.
Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo pushes the storage ceiling even further, with options rising to 2TB. Gadgets 360 describes it as a wide-folding device with a 5.4-inch external screen and a 7.6-inch internal panel, both using Super Retina XDR technology. It shares the A20 Pro chipset with the iPhone 18 Pro and uses a dual 48-megapixel rear camera system. The 1TB configuration is listed at Rs. 3,74,900, placing it well above conventional flagships and squarely in the ultra-premium bracket for early adopters.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 remains another major choice for users who want a large foldable screen and ample internal storage. It uses the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip as the S26 Ultra and offers up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The phone pairs a 5.5-inch cover display with a 7.6-inch foldable panel, each capable of refreshing at up to 120Hz, and includes a 4,800mAh battery with 45W wired charging. According to Gadgets 360, the 16GB + 1TB version costs Rs. 2,39,999 in India.
The list also includes Motorola’s Signature, which is notable because it brings 1TB storage to a more reachable price point, even if availability is limited. The device has a 6.8-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 1Hz to 165Hz refresh range, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, a triple 50-megapixel rear camera set-up and a 5,200mAh battery. Smartprix’s 1TB storage tracker, updated in October, shows how rare this tier remains across the Indian market, with only a relatively small number of handsets offering it. For most buyers, that makes the choice less about specifications alone and more about ecosystem, camera preference, foldable design and budget.
