Anker is bringing smartphone-style software updates to its Nano Charger, adding iPhone 18 recognition, adaptive voltage scaling and new display information after purchase.
Anker has begun treating one of its compact phone chargers less like a fixed accessory and more like a device that can improve after purchase. The company’s Nano Charger (45W, Smart Display, 180° Foldable) sold in the United States can receive software updates through the Anker app, allowing it to add support for newer iPhone models and, when enabled, show the model name on its small display. According to Anker, the charger’s screen also reports real-time power draw, battery level and charging status, turning a basic wall adapter into something closer to a diagnostic tool.
The update process is straightforward. Users connect the charger to a phone with a USB cable, open the Anker app, select the charger and tap “Update”. Once the transfer finishes, the charger restarts automatically. Anker says the firmware adds recognition for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, together with support for AVS, or adaptive voltage scaling, which adjusts voltage and current during charging. The company says the feature is intended to improve charging efficiency while protecting battery health.
That approach reflects a broader shift in charging hardware. Apple has quietly pushed firmware updates to its own MagSafe Charger in the past, with updates delivered over the air once the accessory is connected to a powered device. Anker is applying a similar idea to a third-party charger, but with a more visible user interface. The company also says the charger’s Care Mode can reduce battery ageing by up to 20%, although that figure comes from Anker’s own product information rather than an independent test.
The hardware itself remains modest in size: a single USB-C port, up to 45W output and a plug that folds flat or pivots for easier positioning in tight sockets and power strips. The U.S. model is listed at $39.99 on Anker’s site, while similar regional listings and reviews indicate that pricing varies by market. Anker’s own product pages say the charger supports iPhone 15, 16, 17 and 18 series devices, but the company notes that iPhone 18 recognition and AVS support depend on receiving the relevant app-delivered update. In practice, that means the charger will still work without the new firmware, but some of its smarter features may arrive later.
