Apple reportedly plans a 9-inch HomeView with a rotating robotic arm

Apple is reportedly developing a premium HomeView with a larger display and motorised 360-degree movement, potentially arriving in 2027 or 2028.

Apple is already facing rumours of a pricier follow-up to its first display-equipped smart home hub, even before the current model has reached all markets. According to reporting from Bloomberg cited by MacRumors, the company is developing a higher-end version of HomeView with a larger 9-inch screen and a 360-degree rotating robotic arm. The existing model uses a fixed 7-inch display, so the new design would mark a substantial shift in both size and functionality.

The appeal of the concept is clear. Apple’s current HomeView is aimed at everyday household tasks, from checking calendars and recipes to handling music and video calls, but its hinged design still requires the user to reposition the device manually. If the reported robotic arm is accurate, the screen could automatically tilt and swivel to follow a speaker’s face or adjust itself for use during calls, which would make the device more suitable for kitchens, living rooms and other shared spaces.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also indicated that Apple is exploring several possible names for the premium model, including HomeView Max, HomeView Ultra and HomeView 360. On the timing, the reports point to a launch window in 2027 or 2028, suggesting that the more advanced version is still some way from market. That would leave Apple time to refine what is likely to be a technically complex product, particularly if face-tracking, voice recognition and motorised movement are all built into one home device.

For now, the question is less about whether such a product would be useful than whether Apple can bring it to market at a sensible price. A larger display and a robotic base would almost certainly push the cost beyond the current model’s likely bracket. If the company does proceed, the premium HomeView could become one of Apple’s more ambitious attempts to turn the smart home hub into a genuinely adaptive interface rather than a fixed screen on a speaker stand.
