SanDisk targets ballooning game installs with storage upgrades for every major console

SanDisk has unveiled a gaming-focused storage range spanning Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and handheld PCs, including a 1TB microSD Express card and an 8TB PS5 SSD.

SanDisk has introduced a fresh line-up of storage products aimed squarely at gamers as the holiday season approaches, with new options for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, handheld PCs and PlayStation 5 consoles. The company is positioning the range as a way to address one of the most persistent limits in modern gaming: the rapid exhaustion of internal storage as game sizes continue to rise.

At the top of the list is an officially licensed microSD Express card for Nintendo Switch 2. SanDisk says the card has been designed and tested for the console, with read speeds of up to 880MB/s and capacities reaching 1TB. The company also claims the largest version can hold as many as 36 games, while its ThermAdapt technology is intended to keep temperatures within operating limits during heavy use. It is sold with a lifetime limited warranty.

For users of portable PCs and compact gaming systems, SanDisk has added the Optimus GX 7100M NVMe SSD family. According to the company, these PCIe 4.0 drives are aimed at devices such as the Steam Deck, MSI Claw, Microsoft Surface and Dell laptops, with sequential read speeds of up to 7,250MB/s and write speeds of up to 6,900MB/s. Capacities go up to 2TB in the M.2 2230 format, and SanDisk says the drives use its nCache 4.0 technology to support sustained performance in power-conscious devices.

Xbox owners are being offered the Optimus GX C50 Storage Expansion Card, which SanDisk says is available in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB versions. The card is officially licensed for Xbox Series X|S and designed to work with Xbox Velocity Architecture, allowing games to run directly from the expansion card with performance meant to mirror the console’s internal SSD. SanDisk says the 2TB model can store up to 50 additional AAA games, and each version comes with a one-month trial of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and one month of Discord Nitro.

Rounding out the range is the Optimus GX PRO 850P NVMe SSD for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. SanDisk says the drive is officially licensed for Sony’s consoles, includes a heatsink tailored to the M.2 slot and is available in capacities of up to 8TB. That puts it among the larger consumer-facing storage upgrades on the market for PS5 owners who want to keep more titles installed at once without relying on external game libraries or regular deletions.
