Apple’s first major iOS 27 update expands Siri’s memory and personal context, adds new privacy controls and brings a range of changes to Photos, Podcasts, Games, Apple TV and FaceTime.
Apple has released iOS 27.2, a major point update that broadens the reach of its Siri AI features while also adding new controls across core apps. According to Apple’s release notes, the update lets Siri remember earlier conversations and use a wider set of personal context, including photos attached in Messages, Calendar attendees, voicemails, Safari history and Reading List. It also adds a new Excluded Apps setting, letting users decide which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access from one place.
The update further extends Siri AI with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, although Apple says the feature is still unavailable in the EU and mainland China. MacRumors reported that iOS 27.2 is the first major iOS 27 update and that it unifies supported iPhones on the same release track. Apple’s notes also say the software brings Suggestions in Messages, which can surface actions such as creating Calendar or Reminders entries from the context of a conversation, and adds granular text selection so users can copy only part of a Siri response.
Beyond Siri, Apple is using iOS 27.2 to refine several of its built-in apps. In Photos, Shared Albums can now handle caption and comment edits, avoid duplicate uploads and warn participants before an album expires so they can save content. Apple also says the update adds support for SynthID watermarking to help identify images generated or altered with AI tools. Elsewhere, Podcasts now separates New Episodes from Continue Playing on the Home tab, the Games app gains a Friends tab with more context on recommendations and recent activity, and the Apple TV app introduces individual profiles for households. Apple has also added FaceTime support for third-party sign language interpreters or live captioners, alongside security fixes and other under-the-hood improvements.
