ORICO’s new enclosure lets supported iPhones record 4K ProRes video directly to a removable M.2 NVMe SSD, while offering 10Gbps transfers and up to 85W pass-through charging.
ORICO has launched a MagSafe-compatible M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure aimed at iPhone users who record high-resolution video and want to offload storage from the handset itself. According to the company’s announcement, the case is designed to attach to the back of supported iPhones with 17 built-in magnets, allowing direct recording of 4K ProRes video to external storage while keeping the phone’s internal memory free.
The device also includes a PD100W charging port, which means users can charge a phone or laptop while transferring data, with ORICO saying the setup can deliver up to 85W of charging during use. That makes it more practical for longer shoots, livestreams and other sustained workflows where battery life and cable management matter. ORICO is positioning the enclosure as a portable accessory for creators rather than a simple storage dock.
On the connectivity side, the enclosure uses USB 3.2 Gen 2 and is rated for up to 10Gbps, which ORICO says is equivalent to roughly 1,000MB/s under ideal conditions. The company also says the unit supports UASP, a protocol that can improve transfer efficiency and reduce waiting time during large file moves. The SSD itself is not included, so buyers must add a separate M.2 NVMe drive.
Compatibility extends beyond the iPhone 15, 16 and 17 Pro and Pro Max models cited by ORICO. The company says the enclosure also works with iPad Pro, MacBook and Android handsets with USB-C, and supports M.2 NVMe drives in 2230 and 2242 sizes, with capacity support up to 2TB. Apple’s own device and codec limitations still apply, however: ORICO says ProRes HDR 4K at 120fps requires an iPhone 16 or 17 Pro or Pro Max, while ProRes HDR 4K at 60fps works on the iPhone 15, 16 and 17 Pro and Pro Max. ORICO says the product is being sold through its official channels, and AppBank reports that a promotional discount runs from 27 October to 2 November, with an advertised final price of ¥2,421 after stacking offers.
